Anurag Kashyap is putting his clout behind indie storytellers with a new YouTube home for short films, promising one curated drop a month and kicking off with Incognito on July 15. It is a bold play aimed at fans hungry for sharp, genre-forward cinema and creators seeking a serious showcase.
A creator-first YouTube channel with a plan
Oh Flip Shorts is the platform’s name, and it is backed by Kashyap and producer Ranjan Singh. Kashyap will curate the slate, positioning the channel as a premium destination for groundbreaking short-form cinema and a hub for a dedicated indie community.
The channel’s first premiere comes with an extra stamp of approval. Alongside filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, Kashyap will present Incognito as the opening title, signalling exactly the kind of risk-taking storytelling the platform says it wants to champion.
Launch title: Incognito brings the chill
Written and directed by Ravi Muppa, Incognito is described as a psychological thriller featuring Vikram Singh, Ayushi Nema, and Dev Chauhan in pivotal roles. The film lands on Oh Flip Shorts on July 15, setting a tense tone for what the channel plans to deliver monthly.
Its premise is unsettling and timely. A cash-strapped motel receptionist profits off hidden-cam videos until he records a girl in danger of being trafficked. He must choose between stepping in or protecting himself, a moral crossroads that promises high-stakes suspense.
Why Kashyap and Motwane are betting on shorts
Kashyap is clear about why this format matters. ‘I’ve always loved short films as they are the first stepping stone for a director to test their storytelling style and give an actual practice to them of shooting a story,’ he said, calling the channel an effort to showcase excellent short films.
‘Continuing the same, this is our effort to showcase some excellent short films, curated by me and presented by filmmakers whose work I look up to. We’re glad to begin with Incognito by Ravi Muppa. I hope it’ll be liked by the audience,’ he added.
Motwane’s verdict on the opener is equally emphatic. ‘Incognito is gripping and beautifully atmospheric, a true blue genre short with an out of the box ending. Congratulations to Ravi and his team and I’m so happy that we can present this to the audience’.
What viewers can expect each month
If you are wondering what the channel promises in practice, here is the short version:
– Premium home for short-form cinema
– One curated title every month
– Curation by Anurag Kashyap
– Support from Ranjan Singh and leading directors
Ranjan Singh, who backed the short under the Flip Films banner, framed the mission simply. ‘We are thankful to Anurag for the curation, and Vikram and other directors to lend their support to the same. Every month we’ll be premiering one new short on the channel and hope that we’ll be able to make a community very soon,’ he said.
Incognito is already eyeing a bigger canvas
The short is not the endgame. Incognito will also be developed into a feature, co-produced by Hollywood’s Invention Studios alongside Flip Films and Campfire Studios. Anurag Kashyap, Nicholas Weinstock, Divya Souza, and Ranjan Singh are locked to serve as producers.
That future-facing move underlines the channel’s ambition. It is not just about premieres; it is about spotting voices early, proving the concept fast, and scaling the stories that resonate.
Why it matters for audiences right now
For viewers, Oh Flip Shorts sets up a steady pipeline of tightly crafted films with serious filmmakers in the room. For emerging directors, it offers visibility anchored by curation rather than algorithms, which could reshape how indie shorts find their audience.
The real test arrives on July 15 with Incognito. If the debut delivers the promised chills and conversation, the monthly rollout that follows could become a must-watch ritual for fans of bold, compact storytelling.
