Akshay Kumar has put the spotlight on co-star Rajesh Sharma’s alarming health scare, urging prayers after an insect bite on set spiralled into a serious infection. The 45-year-old actor is hospitalised in Kolkata and, according to an official note, remains under close observation and is not yet out of danger.

Akshay Kumar’s message draws attention

Posting a candid photo with Sharma on X, Akshay wrote: ‘Very concerned to hear about my dear friend Rajesh’s health condition after an insect bite while shooting. Hope Mahadev blesses him with fast and complete recovery.’

He signed off with a line only old friends can pull off: ‘Jaldi theek ho ja yaar, abhi saath baith ke bhot hansna hai (Get well soon, buddy; we still have a lot of laughing to do together).’

The two have shared the screen in crowd favourites. Their collaborations include Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Special 26, Mission Raniganj, Laxmii and Bhooth Bangla.

Why fans are anxious

Actor Sudipa Chatterjee, sharing an official statement on social media, said doctors have kept Sharma under close watch and warned it is too early to make a definite assessment. Dr Avijit Bhattacharya, she added, has echoed that caution.

The same note flagged the risk of a blood clot that could turn life-threatening if it travels to the lungs.

For quick clarity, here is what is confirmed so far:
– Sharma is 45 and hospitalised in Kolkata
– He is under close medical observation
– Doctors say it is too early to assess
– There is a risk of a blood clot

What unfolded after pack-up

The incident, as described in the statement, occurred after shooting wrapped. While chatting with local technicians in a densely vegetated patch, Sharma felt an insect bite. It did not seem serious then, so he skipped immediate treatment.

About six hours later, he developed severe pain in his right leg and felt unwell. He still boarded a flight back to Kolkata, but during the journey he spiked a high fever and became increasingly restless, with his condition deteriorating further.

The following day, he was admitted to Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria. He has been battling high fever, breathlessness and a rapidly progressing infection in his right leg. The infection spread from his toes to his knee, with large blisters forming on the affected area.

Where it happened and the film in question

Sharma was shooting at Ramoji Film City for a film starring Prabhas when the suspected bug or poisonous spider bite occurred. The early signs were deceptively mild, but the escalation has jolted colleagues and fans alike.

Industry support and the next update

Chatterjee said a formal medical update will be shared once the hospital team issues its assessment. She thanked everyone who stepped up, including the media, the Bengal Motion Pictures Artists’ Forum, Sharma’s friends and well-wishers, and ‘above all, Shri Prosenjit Chatterjee’, whom she called a constant source of guidance and support.

The actor behind the headlines

Sharma’s filmography explains why the industry is rallying. He is known for Khosla Ka Ghosla, Ishqiya, No One Killed Jessica, The Dirty Picture, Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.

He has also featured in India’s Most Wanted, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, B.A. Pass, Special 26 and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. That range has earned him goodwill across sets and audiences.

Akshay’s public note mirrors that sentiment. For now, all eyes are on the medical team in Kolkata and the next official bulletin. Colleagues and well-wishers are hoping the worst has passed and the laughter Akshay promised is not far away.
