On the occasion of its 36th-anniversary celebration, the legendary 1989 action-thriller Siva, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and starring Nagarjuna, will be re-released in theaters. The production company has also released a behind-the-scenes documentary named The Punch of Siva where the guests consist of the biggest personalities from the Telugu industry who are there to share their views as well as to talk about the movie’s influence. The Annapurna Studios festival not only had Varma, Nagarjuna, and Sandeep Reddy Vanga the filmmaker on stage but also had them in a very involved conversation.
In a teaser posted by the production house, Nagarjuna was heard to be praising Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, a Vanga venture of 2023. Speaking of his time together with Ranbir on Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, Nagarjuna recounted how the actor was already into his role for Animal even before that. The Pannadhay’s level of enthusiasm for the film was real as he screened clips of his previous work, the promenade film Arjun Reddy, and was equally very loud about his stand on the silver screen.
Vanga, who gained fame from his Arjun Reddy film and further rose to prominence with Kabir Singh and Animal, complimented Ranbir for his undivided dedication to the role and unique way of portraying the character. While Varma, a strong supporter of Vanga after Animal, told an incident, when the directorial skills of Vanga were appreciated by SS Rajamouli through saying that Vanga was bigger than Ram Gopal Varma.
When they were talking, Varma pointed out the foundation of Siva, intimating that the movie was his idea after being a Bruce Lee fan during his teenage years and a little accident that helped in creating the story. He was clear that Siva was his college life and Bruce Lee’s Return of the Dragon together, the combination being the true essence of the movie.
Nagarjuna has again recognized or praised Shiva film and called it one of the best collaborations both of us i.e. him and Varma. When he was enquired about a likely remake production with his sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil Akkineni, he quipped that they did not have the courage, and he was somewhat against remakes. However, he had quirkily mentioned the idea just for fun. He had also mentioned that he always wanted to share the screen space with his ex-wife, Amala Akkineni after 36 years.
The craze among moviegoers about Animal became bigger with Nagarjuna disclosing the great actor and a class apart Ranbir Kapoor waiting eagerly for the film, and this was during the shooting of Brahmastra. Ranbir’s way of preparing for the role in Animal with total commitment is something which was really appreciated by Nagarjuna.
Animals fans are very much excited about the sequel to Animal known as the Animal Park, which will show the main character’s journey more profoundly along with Ranbir taking a dual role, still, Vanga is not out of the picture and will continue to stand out by his great concepts. Besides, the amazing creative imagination of Vanga is still going strong, with the movie Spirit starring Prabhas already planned.
As a result, the re-launch of Siva is not just a marketing trick but also a very sentimental thing and a kind of forever tribute to the film that Indian cinema world has never forgotten. It is like a cross to bear when one of the few movies that got enchanting recognition such as Siva is still said to be the gem of the industry and that it still showcases even in such a different trend of movies proponents the impact it had had so many years ago.
