For Love & War, Vicky has made of his body a means of telling the story. He put on close to 12 kg to start with, then let go of 15 for the end. When you have a movie with this much feeling, that is the sort of dedication that has an audience behind it.
The transformation everyone is talking about
If you read the reports, Kaushal is covering a lot of ground with his character, which means big changes in both size and stamina. He was heavier at the beginning of the shoot and pared down for what comes later. You won’t see any of that for a social media post; this is all about the role first.
We have seen him do it before, like with Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in last year’s Chhava. But with Love & War, he is upping the ante on how hard he will work for a scene.
Here is what you want to know:
– Put on 12 kg or so for the part
– Dropped 15 for the climax
– Over two years of making the film
– Hitting screens on January 21, 2027
Secrecy, scale, and the long road to release
It has been a while in the making. They put it out there in 2024, had their eye on a Christmas 2025 opening, and then put it on hold. A March 2026 slot was floated at one point but never came to be.
Then in April, they put a pin in it: January 21, 2027, right before Republic Day. The word on the street is the sheer size of the project is why it has taken so long. And to keep the lid on things, they have been very firm about leaks – 500-plus NDAs have been put in place, we are told.
What the film promises
Think of it as an epic where you have romance and aviation and hard times all in one. With the way they are cast, the hunch is Kaushal and Ranbir are in uniform, maybe as Air Force, and Alia is in the middle of a love triangle with a lot at stake.
You will get your share of duty, sacrifice and the like. In that kind of world, it makes sense for Vicky to be in two different bodies; it is a way to show a man at different points in time or with a changed allegiance.
Big-ticket collaborations raise expectations
When you have Alia, Ranbir and Vicky in a room with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, you have something special. Alia has worked with him once before, for Gangubai Kathiawadi, and won a National for it. Ranbir and the director go back to Saawariya.
This is Vicky’s first time with Bhansali, and the whole physical change is part of his introduction to the fold. It is a rare kind of star power and scope you don’t often put under one roof.
Why it matters now
After more than two years of production, people are ready for it. The weight gain and loss are not just numbers to be had; they tell you what the film is after. Love & War is meant to be an experience, and Vicky’s side of it is the first sign of that.
A final note for the fans:
– Don’t expect to see anything from the set. The makers are on top of it.
