Akshay has finally said something about the nine crore rupee check case with Rajpal Yadav and is giving Rajpal very direct advice based on what he’s learned. He said he told Rajpal “Don’t produce films” while he was promoting “Bhooth Bangla” with Priyadarshan. He believes actors should act and producers should produce and that in the film industry, trying to take shortcuts almost never works out.
Akshay Kumar on Rajpal Yadav: ‘Told him not to produce films’
Akshay thinks Rajpal is a very talented actor and hopes he gets out of his current difficulty completely. He said Rajpal is a fantastic performer who puts in 120 to t40 percent effort on set. Akshay said their funny, spontaneous conversations during filming often go beyond what’s written in the script and Priyadarshan quickly likes them.
Priyadarshan also thinks it’s a good idea to be careful. He’s directed almost a hundred films and has never produced one himself. He says that Akshay and Rajpal in “Bhooth Bangla” are like Tom and Jerry, and that the slapstick comedy, like in their past films together, is a big part of the movie.
Akshay remembered something Asrani said to him during their last important conversation. Asrani told him to never use his own money to make a film because it’s the biggest cause of worry in life. He said even a good film can lose money, and if you’ve used all your own money to make it, you could lose everything.
A cautionary tale from Asrani
This memory really resonated with Akshay when he was talking about Rajpal’s situation. He saw a connection between what Asrani had gone through and what Rajpal is now dealing with, and repeated that producing a film needs a completely different set of skills. Akshay feels actors are tempted to quickly make money, which leads them to take on dangerous projects that get out of hand.
Priyadarshan, who has worked with Asrani for many years in many different kinds of films, describes him as a fully-rounded actor. Asrani could easily go from serious drama to being a villain or being funny, and Priyadarshan says it was a pleasure that Asrani’s final appearances on screen include this movie with him.
Rajpal Yadav’s case has been moving fast recently. He turned himself in on February 5th after the court said he couldn’ andt have more time to pay the money. He was let out of Tihar Jail on February 17th after paying one crore fifty lakh rupees, and then his jail sentence was put on hold until March 18th.
Where the case stands: payments, bail, and court observations
At a more recent court meeting, the Delhi High Court recorded that Rajpal had paid a large sum towards the nine crore rupees he owes. His lawyer told the court that they had asked for a regular bail. Because his temporary bail was ending that day, they needed to quickly tell the court how much of the money had been paid.
The court was told that four crore twenty-five lakh rupees had already been paid to Murlidhar Projects Private Limited and another twenty-five lakh rupees was being paid with a bank draft. The court said that, because of these payments, Rajpal would not be sent back to jail at this time.
Away from the court, Rajpal has been thinking about his life and what is important to him since he’s been released. He talked about his very simple start in life, including working as a tailor and how proud he is that his family’s tailoring work included making clothes for the Indian Army. He said his teacher (guru) taught him to have faith in time and what you learn from it.
Although the court case got a lot of press, Bhooth Bangla is getting attention because Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are working together again after fourteen years. The short preview shows a typical comedy with a lot of actors, Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, Wamiqa Gabbi, and has a fun, older style that Akshay leads.
Bhooth Bangla brings Akshay and Priyadarshan back together
Asrani is in the very beginning of the film, and he explains a strange “Vadhusur” curse in a place called Mangalpuri. The preview suggests there will be ghosts, but the main part of the movie will be comedy that relies on when things happen, people’s reactions, and things going wrong. This style of comedy – the way it’s put together – has always been Priyadarshan’s trademark.
Priyadarshan said he worked with Rajpal in a very physical way, using a lot of falling down and fast, energetic conversations. He said he intentionally doesn’t make his own movies because he’d rather concentrate on the actual making and speed of a film, and leave the business side to people who know that well.
Bhooth Bangla will come out sooner than originally planned. It was going to be on May log, but is now coming out on April 10, 2026. Akshay and Priyadarshan last worked together on Khatta Meetha in 2010, so people have high expectations for how they’ll work together on screen.
It’s not a new discussion whether actors should become producers, many do it to have more control over the creative side or to get a bigger share of the money the film makes. But being a producer is a risky job that includes getting the money, making a schedule, getting the film to theaters, and figuring out how to get the money back, which changes with the market.
The producer question in Bollywood: ambition, risk, and timing
Akshay’s comments point to a common problem: using your own money to make a film without a backup plan. Even if a film is well made and has popular actors, it can still lose money. And if you’ve used your own money, even losing a small amount can cause problems for a long time. This is the warning in the advice Asrani gave.
There’s a difference between working with established producers and doing everything yourself. Officially working with another producer divides the risk, sets limits on what can go wrong, and connects you to their marketing and distribution system. Taking a chance on your own, especially for your first time producing, can hugely increase your losses if the film doesn’t do well in theaters.
For actors, the safest thing to do is be clear about what they are good at. If they are valuable because of their acting, continuing to act and working with production companies you trust can lessen the chance of losing money. If they want to become producers, they should work with people who have experience and protect their money.
Right now, Rajpal’s most important thing is to finish things with the law. The court has said a lot of money has been paid to him, and what happens next depends on him continuing to follow the rules and what is decided at future court meetings. People in the film industry, Akshay and Priyadarshan included, have said they support Rajpal going back to working as an actor full time.
What comes next for Rajpal Yadav and Bhooth Bangla
Akshay and Rajpal working together on screen is expected to be a great part of Bhooth Bangla. Because of their history of fast conversations and making things up as they go, the film will have a lot of life, even though the story uses ghosts and funny misunderstandings.
Priyadarshan and Akshay have also started planning other films to do together. They intend to release Haiwaan about ninety days after Bhooth Bangla, which would be around August. Another film they have talked about for a long time, Hera Pheri 3, is still being discussed but there are no details yet.
With a very public court case and a return to comedy, the film industry is being reminded very clearly that in Bollywood, when and how things happen and the attitude of those involved are as important as being talented. Rajpal Yadav hopes the next news about him will be about his acting, not legal issues. And people who go to the movies are looking forward to April 2026.
