Design and build updates
Dell has improved the XPS look with an aluminum body made by computer-controlled machining and Gorilla Glass 3, which makes them more durable. The XPS logo is now on the lid for a simpler appearance. Both are designed to be easy to carry while keeping the clean, minimalist style XPS is known for.
The XPS 14 is 14.6mm thick and weighs 1.36kg, and the XPS 16 weighs 1.65kg, according to Dell. They have brought back the row of function keys you physically press, and they include a keyboard with keys that aren’t laid out in a grid (zero-lattice) and a glass touchpad to make them easier to use every day.
Performance, AI, and thermals

The cooling system has been completely redesigned with larger fans and better airflow. Dell says the bottom of the laptop is up to 8 degrees cooler and the whole system is up to 36% quieter, which means they can continue to perform well under pressure and make less noise when you’re working or studying.
Displays, audio, and camera
The XPS line has InfinityEdge screens, and you can choose from 2K LCD screens that don’t use much power, to bright 2.8K and 3.2K Tandem OLED touchscreens. Dell says the OLED screens show richer colours and use less power, and Eyesafe technology is meant to reduce how much your eyes get tired.
There’s a hidden four-speaker system that creates spatial audio for a more realistic sound. Above the screen is a very small 8MP webcam for video calls, which should give you clearer pictures during meetings and when you’re making videos.
Battery life and sustainability
Battery life is very important. Dell says you can watch Netflix for up to 27 hours or play videos from your computer for more than 40 hours. They say this is because of how efficient the internal components are and because they use batteries with a very high energy density of 900 Wh/L (the highest in the industry).
Dell has used recycled materials in a lot of the parts and the USB-C ports can be easily replaced for repairs. They are ENERGY STAR certified and have an EPEAT Gold rating, showing Dell is still committed to being environmentally friendly with its high-end laptops.
