Haiwaan: Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan Reunite in Priyadarshan’s Thriller, Set for 2026 Release

You can put 11th September 2026 in your diary for the release of Haiwaan, a Priyadarshan thriller that has Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan back in the saddle. It's a Hindi version of the Malayalam success Oppam and is shaping up to be a good one: Akshay in the villain's chair and Saif as a blind caretaker at the centre of a homicide.

The clock is ticking on Haiwaan. The two stars are set to be on screen together once more when Priyadarshan puts the film out in theatres around the world in mid-September. It’s the kind of star-studded head-to-head that will have fans paying attention.

An official poster has put an end to the speculation. With its high-stakes drama, Haiwaan is all the talk in fan forums right now, not just for the way it’s been put together but for the kind of director-actor chemistry we haven’t seen in a while in Hindi cinema.

Release date and why fans care

It’s not just for old times’ sake. The last time you saw Akshay and Saif in a movie was Tashan, back in 2008, and this time around they are coming with something a lot more hard-edged. Don’t expect a soft ride from Priyadarshan; he has his sights on a no-nonsense thriller.

What the word on the street is so far:
– 11th September 2026 (release)
– Priyadarshan (director)
– KVN Productions, Thespian Films (backing)
– Venkat K Narayana, Shailaja Desai Fenn (producers)
– Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Saiyami Kher (in front of the camera)

Reunion with a twist

Expectations are being turned on their head here. Saif is a visually impaired man who has to clear his name in a murder case. And then there is Akshay, who is going in as a hard-nosed bad guy, which makes for some interesting viewing.

Akshay put it best in a recent chat: “It is great to be with Priyadarshan and Saif again, always fun.” He had a laugh about how different they are, too – said Saif is very SoBo while he is more of an Andheri to Borivali type. You can see why we like them on screen for that reason.

Their films together

They have a history: Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Yeh Dillagi in ’94, Tu Chor Main Sipahi in ’96, Keemat in ’98, and of course Tashan in 2008. All have their own vibe, but Haiwaan looks to be the most confrontational of the bunch.

Priyadarshan’s playbook, remixed

As you may know, this is the Hindi remake of his 2016 Malayalam hit, Oppam. But the makers say they’ve put in the work on the script and the lines to make it its own thing.

If you’re familiar with the way Priyadarshan does a thriller, you’ll appreciate the precision he’s brought to it. Add in Shriya and Saiyami to the mix and you have some depth to the story, not just the usual adrenaline.

Who is backing the big bet

KVN Productions and Thespian Films are behind it, with Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn at the helm. They are touting it as a must-see in the theatre, with a worldwide opening on the 11th of next year.

"One obsession. One relentless pursuit.” That’s the tagline, and it says it all for what happens when you put an Akshay-Saif run-in under Priyadarshan’s watch.

With the way things are, there is a lot of interest. The film is not resting on its laurels; it is asking both of them to put in some risk. A little creative risk is what makes a day on the calendar worth the wait.

For the moment, the poster and the date are enough. We don’t have any more to go on, and the hush is only making the noise louder. If it is half as good as it sounds, 11th September 2026 will be a good day for Haiwaan.
