Mumbai Water Cut: BMC Plans 30-Hour Supply Halt for Tunnel Works on May 5-6

From May 5th to May 6th, 2026, Mumbai will have no water for 30 hours. This is because the BMC (Mumbai's municipal corporation) is doing work on tunnels. Some neighborhoods will have water completely turned off, and others will have much less water pressure than usual. People who live in Mumbai should fill up containers with water beforehand, and be careful not to use too much water during these 30 hours.

The BMC has planned this 30-hour water cut for all of Mumbai from May 5th to May 6th, 2026, for tunnel work. The BMC says some areas will have no water at all, while others will have only a weak flow. They want everyone to save water and fill up containers.

The water will be shut off from 10 AM on Tuesday, May 5th, until 4 PM on Wednesday, May 6th. The BMC says this maintenance is vital for starting up new connections to the water tunnels, which are part of the city’s Water Supply Project.

What BMC Has Announced

The BMC has publicly stated that the work is to get the new water tunnel from Amar Mahal (also called Hedgewar Udyan) to Pratiksha Nagar in Wadala, Paral, under AMT-1, the Trombay Reservoir under AMT-2, and the Turbhe High Level Reservoir all working.

As part of this, a 1800mm (large) pipe that brings water to the Turbhe High Level Reservoir will be attached to another 1800mm pipe, and other related tasks will be done. The BMC also says the 1800mm pipe to the Turbhe High Level Reservoir and the 1200mm pipe to the Turbhe Low Level Reservoir will both be closed during this time.

When And How The Supply Will Be Affected

BMC has confirmed a mixed impact across neighbourhoods, with some facing a full shutdown and others experiencing low pressure. The key timings and impact highlights are as follows:

– Start: Tuesday, May 5, 2026, 10 am

– End: Wednesday, May 6, 2026, 4 pm

– Total duration: 30 hours

– Full shutdown in select neighbourhoods

– Low-pressure supply in several localities

Areas Facing Shutdown Or Low Pressure

BMC has listed divisions and localities that will face a shutdown or reduced pressure during the works:

– F North: Pratiksha Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Shanti Nagar

– F North: H. M. Marg, K. D. Gaikwad Nagar, Wadala Truck Terminus

– F North: New Cough Parade, Alameda Complex, shutdown on May 6

– Shiv (East) and Shiv (West): low-pressure supply

– F South Division: affected on May 6

– L Division: affected on May 6

– M East Division: affected on May 6

– M West Division: shutdown May 5, low pressure May 6

– N Division and surrounding areas: shutdown May 5, low pressure May 6

Day-wise impact summary

On May 5th, the M West Division and N Division, and the areas around them, will have absolutely no water. On the 6th, those neighborhoods should have low water pressure.

On May 6th, the F South Division, L Division, and M East Division will all be affected. In the F North Division, Alameda Complex is on the list of places where the water will be shut off that day.

What Residents Should Do

The BMC is asking for people’s help. They say, “People in the areas mentioned should save up enough water before the cut. Don’t waste water while the water is off.”

The advice is to store water ahead of time, put off anything you don’t absolutely need to use water for, and think about how much water you’ll need for each day during the 30 hours. Residents should be ready for either no water or low water pressure, depending on where they live, as the BMC has explained.
