Police in Delhi arrested the bus driver and conductor after the woman reported she was gang-raped on the bus in West Delhi. The bus is in police hands, a police case was filed after her medical examination, and they are looking into what happened from every possible angle to get the order of events correct.

Police have said that the two people the woman accused are being held by them. They’ve also confirmed the bus thought to have been used in the crime has been taken.

According to people with knowledge of the investigation, the incident happened on May telfth. Investigators have said they will be doing forensic tests on the bus.

What the complaint says

The woman, who is married and has three children, went to the police and gave them a full description of what happened. She said she was picked up in the Rani Bagh neighborhood and taken to Nangloi, and inside a bus that has beds for passengers, she was attacked.

She made her report at the Rani Bagh Police Station. After her medical exam, the police case was officially started.

Investigation and evidence steps

Police say they are looking at all parts of the case and are doing more investigating. The bus will be examined by forensic experts to help the police understand exactly when things happened and to confirm what the woman is saying.

To clarify the official steps so far, police confirmed the following actions:

– FIR registered after medical examination

– Driver and conductor arrested

– Private bus seized by investigators

– Forensic tests planned on the bus

Political context and a separate protest

At the same time as this bus case was being investigated, another case, this one about a three-year-old who was allegedly raped in Janakpuri, led to protests by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is an opposition party. AAP leaders, including Saurabh Bharadwaj, protested outside the Lieutenant Governor’s house (Raj Niwas) because they wanted to meet with Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

AAP claims the Delhi police threatened the child’s parents. Bharadwaj said the police actions were terribly cruel, and said the Lieutenant Governor had time to make short videos, but not to listen to the people, and that their struggle for fairness will continue.

Arvind Kejriwal, who used to be the chief minister of Delhi, wrote on X about the Janakpuri case. He said a terrible crime had happened, and said those asking for justice were harassed by the police. Kejriwal said the public supports Bharadwaj, and said the BJP has done so many bad things that it’s “overflowed,” and that there will be results.

What comes next

Police say they are investigating all sides of the bus case. They expect the results of the forensic tests on the bus, the police case and the medical examination will give them clues about what to do next as they try to work out the order of events. More investigating is happening.
