Assuming the word on the street is right, we’re in for a more assertive move from Samsung in the mainstream foldable space next month. The signs are there: a wider screen on the Fold, a two-pronged chip approach, and what the India numbers are telling us. All roads lead to a 22 July 2026 reveal.
Design with an eye on the day-to-day
If you believe the screen protector that tipster Ice Universe put out there, the most welcome change is a much broader cover display on the Z Fold 8. It could be the end of the “why do I have to open it to do anything” grievance that’s been around for a while.
Then there’s the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is looking to be a bit more staid. The leaks show a book-style form factor with minor polish, a way for Samsung to keep its premium tier distinct from the rest of the pack.
The Flip is tidier, but no less of a clamshell
Word is the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is done with the dual rear camera notches of yesteryear in favour of one long cutout. It’s a neater back without straying from the format we know.
You’ll also see a bigger cover display, making it easier to check things at a glance before you even unclasp the phone.
Where the chips come in, the models part ways
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is what you’ll find in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Ultra. The Flip 8, on the other hand, is likely to be powered by Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2600. It’s their modus operandi to let the top-end Folds have the best of what Qualcomm has to offer.
We’ve seen enough in the certification databases to think they’re ready to go. There’s even talk of a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide to add to the mix, giving them more room to play with on price or features.
What the specs are looking like
In short, the Fold is the performance piece with a lot of screen and better lenses; the Flip is all about being pocket-friendly with a boost in battery and display size.
Here’s what we have for the Fold 8 so far:
– 8-inch inside, 120Hz
– 6.5-inch on the outside, 120Hz
– 200MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, 10MP 3x telephoto
– 10MP for your selfies
– 5000 mAh and 45W charging
As for the Galaxy Z Flip 8, expect a 6.9-inch folding screen and a 4.1-inch cover. The 4300 mAh battery will be recharged at 25W. On the camera front, a 50MP shooter, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP selfie cam are in the running.
When and for how much
Samsung hasn’t made any noise yet, but an Unpacked in London on 22 July 2026 is the consensus. With the hardware already in the system, we should hear more in the weeks to come.
Over in India, the numbers look to be set: roughly Rs 1,79,999 for the Z Fold 8 and in the neighbourhood of Rs 1,29,999 for the Z Flip 8. It’s a way of keeping the two in their own lanes, especially with the different silicon.
Put it all together and you have a plan. A more usable Fold, a no-fuss Flip with its own chip – if this is where we’re heading, Samsung is well placed to hold the line when the competition comes calling next month.
