Tesla Launches Model Y L in India: A Spacious, Long-Range EV for Families

With the launch of the Model Y L in India, Tesla is putting a six-seat electric SUV on the table for families that need room to move and a range to match. The WLTP puts you at up to 681 km, and with a price tag of Rs 61.99 lakh, it's made for those who want a top-tier EV. We've also put together some finance to make the numbers work for urban buyers.

We are now in the process of handing over the Model Y L to owners in India. It’s for the family that doesn’t want to have to choose between space and long range. You get a six-seater with a 681 km WLTP claim, all for Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with us seeing to the delivery side of things directly.

Why the Model Y L is a fit for Indian families

It comes down to being able to do what you need to. You can put six in three rows and still have a boot that opens to 2,539 litres for whatever comes your way, be it the school run or a quick trip to the airport. And if you want to put the pedal down, we say you’ll hit 0-100 kmph in 5.0 seconds.

A 681 km range on the WLTP cycle means you don’t have to overthink your next stop on the highway. This is the first time we’re using our direct-to-consumer model for these deliveries, so we can see the whole experience through from start to finish – something new EV buyers will like for the peace of mind it offers.

For those in the market for a premium EV, here is what you need to know:

– Six seats, three rows

– Up to 681 km of WLTP range

– Monthly plans from Rs 49,990

– Down as low as Rs 6.50 lakh

– Rs 61.99 lakh (ex-showroom)

Making the numbers add up

We know the upfront cost is a factor, so we have finance options with monthly payments from Rs 49,990 and a down payment of Rs 6.50 lakh. The goal is to take some of the friction out of the switch to a premium EV and keep your costs in line.

The industry is seeing passenger EV sales top 1.75 lakh in 2025, though they are still only about 4% of the pie. With a more hands-on approach to delivery and better affordability, we are after the well-heeled urban customer who wants an EV that can handle the family duties.

What’s in the Model Y stable in India

You have two to pick from now. There is the three-row Model Y L All-Wheel Drive at Rs 61.99 lakh, and then there is the Model Y Premium Rear-Wheel Drive for Rs 50.89 lakh (both ex-showroom). We put this line-up in order before we started rolling out the Y L.

Then there is the 2026 Model Y Premium we put out not too long ago. It holds five and has 2,138 litres of storage. We’re talking 500 km of WLTP and 5.9 seconds to 100. You can expect to be in one of those by July 2026.

On performance and safety

The Y L is built for the family, but with a 5.0 second 0-100, it is no slouch. As for safety, both it and the Premium have been given the nod by NHTSA, IIHS, Euro NCAP, ANCAP and C-IASI.

So what’s in store?

Deliveries are in motion and we are looking to make inroads in the premium end of the Indian market. If you are a family looking for an easy ownership experience with some room and range, the Model Y L is it: six seats, 681 km and a way to pay for it that makes sense.
