The new BMW M 1000 R is available in India for Rs 33.50 lakh – the price does not include showroom tax. As a completely built-up unit, or CBU, it can be pre-ordered from BMW dealerships now. Customers will start getting their bikes in May 2026. This model brings BMW M performance to roadsters.
When you can get it
BMW Motorrad India is taking orders for the M 1000 R through its dealer network, and sees the bike as a special, high-performance machine. Because it’s a CBU import, there won’t be many at first, so people who want one should expect to wait – and there might be waiting lists – for delivery from May 2026.
The bike comes in a number of colours, including Light White non-metallic/M Motorsport and White Aluminium metallic matt. If you choose the M Competition Package, you also get Blackstorm metallic/M Motorsport, as well as a number of parts for racing and changes to how it looks, that appeal to riders who want a bike that performs well.
How it looks and how the air moves around it
The M 1000 R is small and looks tough, taking its design from BMW’s RR superbike. Its very narrow shape, the dual-flow LED headlight and the M logo in the air intake show it is built for the track, but it still has the normal roadster shape for use on the road and for fun rides.
M Winglets are a key feature, giving a lot of aerodynamic force when the bike is upright and when it is leaning into corners. BMW says that the winglets add about 11 kg to the load on the front wheel at 220 km/h, making the bike more stable and easier to steer when going quickly and when braking hard.
The engine and how well it performs
The power comes from a water-cooled 999 cc inline four engine, which produces 210 hp at 13,750 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 11,100 rpm. BMW says that the M 1000 R goes from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h – these numbers show that it is based on a superbike.
The engine uses BMW ShiftCam variable valve timing to increase torque at low and medium engine speeds, but still have strong power at high engine speeds. Other parts, like titanium valves, new camshafts and lighter followers, help the engine turn freely and improve how it responds, both on the road and on the track.
Electronics and help for the rider
A 6.5-inch TFT screen is the cockpit, with an M start-up animation and built-in connectivity. The system supports M GPS Laptrigger features and gives clear information about how the bike is performing during track sessions and normal riding.
Riding modes include Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro, with advanced systems like Dynamic Traction Control, wheelie control, launch control and a pit-lane limiter. Adaptive cornering lights, cruise control, heated grips and a USB charging port at the back add useful comfort for long rides.
What you can add, the price and what sort of bike it is
The M Competition Package includes M Carbon wheels, carbon body parts, a milled adjustable M rider footrest system and M GPS Laptrigger hardware. These upgrades are for riders who want factory-backed track abilities and a unique look.
With a weight of around 199 kg, a 16.5-litre tank and a 1,455 mm wheelbase, the M 1000 R is a good balance of being easy to move and being stable. At Rs 33.50 lakh – the price does not include showroom tax – it is in the top group of 1,000 cc bikes, and will appeal to people who want a road-legal bike with nearly superbike performance.
