He made sure to do it on the biggest stage. At Eden Gardens, the all-rounder’s 52* was a statement of sorts, one that lives up to the Rs 25.20 crores he is on and shows just how much he has come to mean for KKR in the latter part of the season.
It was his second half-century of the year and he did it at a 185.71 strike rate, putting an end to any talk of his form. In 28 balls, he set the tone for a strong total and made it clear this is a season on the up.
The Eden Gardens turning point
There were three fours and four sixes in that 52*, and it was enough to put GT on the back foot in the middle overs. He and Angkrish Raghuvanshi put on 108; the young man left it on 82* and KKR had 247/2 to show for it.
GT could only muster 218/4 in reply before the wickets started to fall. Sunil Narine was on hand with 2/29 to be named Player of the Match, the spin to go with the top order’s show.

If you look at the numbers, Green has been a steady run-scorer for three different franchises. In 41 matches and 40 innings, he has 1,023 runs at 40.92, with a 152.68 strike rate, a hundred and four fifties.
You can see it in this year’s figures too. After a bit of a slow beginning, he has 316 from 12 games, two fifties and a 79, along with five wickets.
Building blocks at MI and RCB
He made an impact right out of the gate in 2023 with Mumbai. In 16 innings for them he made 422 runs, including a ton, and chipped in with six wickets.
Then there was last year with RCB. 255 runs and 10 wickets in 12 outings. You could see him in some of the wins that turned a one-and-seven record into a six-game streak and a spot in the post-season.
Why this knock matters for KKR
But this was about more than a personal best. KKR wanted someone who could hold the line and then hit hard in the middle, and Green was it. He gave Raghuvanshi room to work and together they called the shots.
On the table, it makes for a fine line. GT are in second with 16 points. KKR have 11 and are down in seventh. A day like this keeps them in the hunt.
