Ram Gopal Varma Acknowledges Dhurandhar’s Roots in Satya and Company

Ram Gopal Varma has said that the very popular film Dhurandhar takes something from his own well-known films, which is what a lot of people watching had already been talking about on the internet. The director said that filmmakers are naturally affected by what they've seen and learned, and gave The Godfather and Goodfellas as films Satya - one of his earlier movies - was inspired by. This makes Dhurandhar seem less like a copy and more like a part of a history of creative work.

Varma explained that when he spoke to Aditya Dhar, Dhar told him he had blended Satya and Company with a lot of feelings about patriotism. Varma agreed that influence could be on purpose or happen without a director knowing, and he called Dhurandhar something that changed the crime-thriller style for a new group of people watching.

Viewers and people who write about films have seen links in the way Dhurandhar feels and is put together, and in the way Varma’s older, classic films are. People watching have pointed to Dhurandhar’s hard look at the criminal world, its main character who isn’t really good or bad, and the importance of being faithful and being betrayed inside groups of criminals. These are ideas Satya and Company made more popular.

Ranveer Singh’s acting as Jaskirat Singh Rangi – also known as Hamza Ali Mazari – reminded some people of famous characters from Mumbai crime films. Some fans felt that the mix of charm and being cruel in his part was like the memorable, not-heroic people in earlier films. However, many people think that these kinds of traits are common in crime-dramas and aren’t necessarily directly copied.

Since Dhurandhar came out, people on social media have posted comparisons of single frames from it and Satya.

Clips and pictures put side-by-side have gone around a lot, causing discussion between people who really love films. The talks went from admiring the way Dhurandhar showed respect to earlier works to complaining about what seemed like taking scenes and the ways characters acted.

Fans and those who comment on films are divided on if Dhurandhar is a respectful tribute, or if it relies too much on things that have been done before. Some praised Aditya Dhar for giving a new look to familiar parts within a modern, all-India setting. Others said that being original is important, and that clearly saying where ideas come from makes the problem of influence less difficult.

Aditya Dhar has freely said that he got ideas from Satya and Company when he was making Dhurandhar. He told Varma that at first he wanted to put those influences together with ideas about loving your country. Dhar turned these into a spy thriller with a group of actors that people all over the country liked.

Dhurandhar ended by saying there would be more. The next film, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, will have Ranveer Singh’s character deal with a deeply-rooted group tied to criminal actions and terrorism. The second part is planned to be in theaters all over India on March 19, 2026, with paid showings before the official opening day.

Varma’s honest view shows a larger truth about films in a certain style

Influence often becomes something new when artists mix, give a new meaning to, and make familiar things fit the area they are in. Filmmakers often borrow ideas, then put in today’s worries, new styles, or different political ideas. Dhurandhar shows how a director can honor a history while trying to reach new goals in storytelling.

The talk also shows what people watching expect now. People watch films not only to be amused, but as a part of a conversation about films, using social media to compare, judge, and enjoy. That can make creative choices better, and make filmmakers more daring in the next films and projects.

In the future, Dhurandhar: The Revenge will show if the series can make its world bigger while keeping the hard energy that made people compare it to Satya and Company. With Varma’s approval and Dhar’s agreement, the next film comes with more excitement and a group of fans who are interested to see how influence will turn into new stories.
