Varma has stated that the script for Sarkar 4 is finished, and that main filming will begin around the middle of 2026. He wants to finish it in about a year, so he can move quickly onto his next project, Syndicate – meaning he’s aiming for a quick, focused production, and not one that goes on and on. This shows he intends to get the political thriller into cinemas without a huge wait after the film is made.
The fact that Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan are both confirmed to be in it will really please those who’ve been fans of the series for a long time. The first two films had both of them in, but Abhishek wasn’t in the third, so this coming-together is particularly important for what people expect.
Their being back should bring back the family side of things which is at the centre of the Sarkar movies.
That family side has made a lot of the drama – and the money the films have earned – and the two actors’ skill together is still a big draw for the marketing and selling of tickets.
The Sarkar series began in 2005, and quickly became a popular political thriller, built around ideas of power, being faithful, and not knowing what’s right. The first film introduced the very important Subhash Nagre character, and set the mood for a series of films which look at where crime and politics meet.
Later films in the series made the family story bigger, and the risks in the power struggles higher. The series has been compared to classic crime films, and has found a steady audience for its tough stories and good acting.
Varma hasn’t told us who else will be in the cast, or what the story will be about in Sarkar 4.
This means people can guess about new enemies, political groups, or changes in the mood of the film which might make the series new, while still being true to what it’s always been.
We can expect the film to look at family loyalty and power again, but also to add in what’s happening in politics now. How well the film mixes characters we’ve seen before with new people will be important in giving both older fans what they want, and making it feel modern.
Varma has thought about how his own filmmaking has changed, and says he likes to be able to change things, instead of sticking to a script exactly. He thinks letting actors make things up and change how they feel during filming makes the final film better – a method which could affect the mood and speed of Sarkar 4.
He’s also talked about films that have inspired him, and has said nice things about modern directors whose work he enjoys. This mix of older visual ideas, and interest in new people, suggests Sarkar 4 might use bold images with stories that are up-to-date.
The news of Sarkar 4 and the Bachchans being back has made fans excited, as they’ve been asking for the series to return. Online, people are talking about what the mood of the film will be, who will be in it, and how the director will show what’s happening in politics today.
Now that the script is done, and there’s a time for filming, the production can move onto casting and getting ready to film. People will be looking for news about who’s in the cast, when the film will be shown, and any short previews as the middle of 2026 – and the filming – gets closer.
