Shraddha Kapoor’s Dramatic Transformation in Eetha: A Biopic of Maharashtrian Folk Icon

You can see the extent of Shraddha Kapoor's make-over in Eetha, the new biopic where she steps into the shoes of Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar, the Maharashtrian folk legend. Laxman Utekar is at the helm, and with a release date of August 28, 2026 on the horizon, the first look has put fans in a state of high anticipation.

In fact, Kapoor has made of the internet a bit of a waiting room, putting out the first look for Eetha only a few hours before the teaser is due on June 23. The kind of transformation on display has people talking, and it’s already making this Utekar film one you don’t want to miss when it comes out next year.

The comments under her post were full of that kind of glee. You had ‘Yesss Queen’ and ‘SEATED FOR THIS ONE’ and ‘Super duper excited, Mam’ – the message was there for all to see: we are ready for this side of her.

Teaser drops today: fan frenzy builds

But the word of mouth didn’t begin on social media. A few theatres let the film’s teaser run with Cocktail 2, and once some of those clips made their way online, they did what they do. Those who were there early on couldn’t get over the mood of the piece and the way Kapoor holds the screen.

She stoked it with a caption: ‘Taiyaar ho… Aa rahi hai #EETHA. Teaser out in 2 hours. Stay tuned.’ It was a neat way to whet the appetite for the full version.

If you have to put a finger on what’s behind the noise, it’s this:
– Not many biopics for Kapoor since Stree 2
– Some very bold styling in a period setting
– A teaser that made its way to the big screen before the web

A story anchored in Maharashtra’s folk heritage

Then there is the subject: Vithabai Bhau Mang Narayangaonkar. She is a force in the world of Tamasha and Lavani, and Eetha is as much about her as it is about the art form. Even the name is a nod to ‘Vitha’, a moniker for the icon, so you know this is going to be up close and personal.

Running from the 50s to the 80s, the movie will follow her rise and the mark she left. For those not from the region, it’s a chance to see a performance style that doesn’t often make it to the multiplex.

First look signals a career pivot

The two photos she put out say a lot. In a Nauvari saree, she is regal but with an edge to her. There is no gloss here, just a textured, real-world feel to how she is put together.

It is a change of pace after what we saw with Stree 2. With a director like Utekar who can tell a story with some heart, you have to figure this is a role to be reckoned with. The first look is less of a hint and more of a declaration.

What viewers noticed in early teaser screens

Those in the theatres for a preview came away with an impression of drama and a very different looking Kapoor. It has also put Vithabai and the whole Tamasha scene back in the conversation for younger eyes.

And with Randeep Hooda and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub in the mix, you can count on some strong scenes from the rest of the cast.

Release date and what to watch next

Mark your calendar for August 28, 2026. The plan seems to be to build up to it, not to put everything on the table at once.

So, the teaser is coming on the 23rd, and after that we should get a better sense of how the film handles the big canvas of Tamasha. All in all, the first sign is of a star who is in for a surprise or two, and a tale that has been waiting for its time in the sun.
