Alia is hoping Raha Kapoor will start playing sports. She says Raha is ‘very competitive’ and she would like her to be ‘an athlete’ at some point. Alia says that becoming a mother is changing what she chooses to do and how fast she does things.
Alia hopes Raha becomes an athlete
In a recent interview Alia said she would love Raha to have a future in athletics. She shared that she wants Raha to “actually be an athlete, she is so competitive and so athletic.”
Raha’s energy is keeping everyone busy. Alia says with a laugh that at just three years old, Raha “really jumps around like a bee in a bonnet” picturing their house full of short runs and happy mess.
A competitive three-year-old
The way Alia describes Raha sounds like any proud mom showing off the best parts of her kid. But more than just what Alia wants for a career, it shows the qualities she wants to encourage in Raha early on: discipline, ambition, and enjoying the challenge of trying to win.
Women who shaped her outlook
Alia says her mother, Soni Razdan, has been a huge influence on her. She remembers watching Soni raise Alia and her sister and still continue to be really passionate about acting, working in both plays and on TV.
She also complimented Shaheen Bhatt for openly talking about her mental health and depression. Alia adds that the women she works with give her a lot of help, different opinions, new ways of looking at things, and energy.
Alia isn’t looking for an easy life. “I don’t have people around me who always say yes. I like arguing and I like hearing ‘no’, or ‘okay, why do you think that?'” she said, showing she prefers an honest discussion to just being told what she wants to hear.
Motherhood has refocused her ambition
Alia has said before that having a child has made her know what’s most important, but hasn’t lessened her motivation. She’s “still very driven, still very ambitious, but my ambition is more focused. I’m saying ‘no’ to things more often than ‘yes'”.
She explains that a person only has so much time and being truly with people is important. “I only have a certain amount of time at the moment…otherwise I won’t be able to be as present.” And she knows she is lucky, and needs to be “in a sane, sound state of mind” because she’s responsible for another person.
Here are Alia’s key takeaways on parenting and work:
– She wishes Raha to be an athlete
– She values disagreement over easy yeses
– She is saying no more than yes at work
– She credits women around her for support
What comes next on screen
Alia’s next film will be Alpha, which is part of the YRF spy film series and stars Sharvari and Bobby Deol. This continues her trend of doing more action films and will likely make people even more interested in it.
She is also going to be in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War with Ranbir Kapoor next year. Between wanting Raha to be an athlete and changing her work plans, Alia is determined to keep her family life and her film projects moving forward in a deliberate way.
