CM Naidu Launches $15 Billion AI and Cloud Hub in Visakhapatnam

N. Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has started a $15 billion project to build an artificial intelligence and cloud computing center in Visakhapatnam. At the heart of this is the Google Cloud India AI Hub. This is all intended to improve the digital setup in the state, make tech jobs available, and get money flowing into the economy. The center will grow from being able to handle 1 gigawatt of power to 6.5 gigawatts, and will cover over 600 acres in various locations.

On Tuesday, April 28th, Chief Minister Naidu officially began construction on the $15 billion AI and cloud center in Visakhapatnam, and laid the first stone for the Google Cloud India AI Hub. The Google AI data center in Vizag is the main part of a larger project being done by Adani, Google and Airtel to build data centers.

A $15 billion bet on AI and cloud

Starting this building work is a large step in expanding the digital and artificial intelligence infrastructure within Andhra Pradesh. Officials say this will bring in a lot of investment from other countries and will be a key reason for businesses to begin using cloud computing.

This hub is intended to be one of the biggest AI data centers in India and will provide the power needed for very complicated computer tasks. Andhra Pradesh is trying to get Visakhapatnam known as a key place on the coast for cloud and AI services in India and the surrounding area.

Foundation ceremony and key players

Many important people from the government and from businesses were at the launch. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, was there, as were people from Google and Adani, Jeet Adani and Karan Adani.

Nara Lokesh (Andhra Pradesh’s IT Minister), Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar (Union Ministers), Mathukumilli Bharat (a Member of Parliament for the state), and Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy (Minister) were also present. A quick video clip from the event showed Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jeet Adani with the Chief Minister on stage.

Scale, sites, and capacity plans

The data center is being planned for the villages of Adavivaram, Rambilli and Tarluvada, covering over 600 acres. It will start with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, but the government of Andhra Pradesh says it wants to get that up to 6.5 gigawatts.

Key project parameters outlined by the state include:

– Investment value of over $15 billion

– Initial capacity target of 1 GW

– Planned scale-up to 6.5 GW

– Sites in Adavivaram, Rambilli, Tarluvada

– Total land area of more than 600 acres

Why it matters for Andhra Pradesh

The state believes the Google Cloud India AI Hub will create jobs in advanced technology areas like AI, cybersecurity, running cloud systems, and data science. The government also thinks the project will encourage investment in things like making servers, cooling systems, power supplies, and networking.

In a statement to the press, the government said this project is connected to their “Speed of Doing Business” policy. This means they’re concentrating on getting approvals quickly and providing infrastructure help to make it possible to build large digital projects and the factories that support them.

What comes next

The government sees the Visakhapatnam hub as central to a wider strategy for data centers. With an initial goal of 1 gigawatt and plans to increase that to 6.5 gigawatts, the state is making it clear they intend to greatly increase their AI and cloud capabilities and attract related technology investments.
