Consider this your date for some heartbreak and payback. Dacoit is coming to Prime Video in Hindi on June 5, putting the romantic thriller in front of a new batch of viewers who may have been away from the theatres or are in the mood to see what makes the leads tick.
Why there’s talk of the June 5 release
Adivi Sesh made the OTT announcement himself on Instagram, along with a fresh poster and a quote to set the tone: Pyaar mein Badla ya Pyaar se Badla #Dacoit in #Hindi on June 5th.
The fans were on it right away. “Mr. Adivi, I am your biggest fan from Indonesia… I have watched the dacoit movie more than 10 times,” one put it. Another was more to the point: "Mr Heart touching song.” You can bet that kind of feeling will be in the numbers when it goes live.
Story hook: love collides with revenge
There is a betrayal at the heart of Dacoit that puts a relationship in tatters. Adivi Sesh is the hard-edged convict whose world is upended, and he sets out to even things with his former partner, Mrunal Thakur.
It has its share of crime and action, but also the kind of emotional wrangling that has you rooting for one side or the other.
Cast and creators
Shaneil Deo is behind the camera and has co-written with Sesh. You’ll also spot Anurag Kashyap, Prakash Raj, Atul Kulkarni, Zayn Marie Khan and Sunil in important parts. Annapurna Studios’ Supriya Yarlagadda has it on her production list, with Suniel Narang as co-presenter and Bheems Ceciroleo on the music.
From the big screen to your TV
We had to wait for it after a few shuffles of the schedule, but Dacoit hit cinemas on April 10 with a lot of hype from the teaser. The critics were divided, but the word from the room and from people in the business has been good.
Nani was effusive on X, hailing it as a True BLOCKBUSTER and saying Sesh was at his best. He also made sure to note how well Mrunal Thakur has thrown herself into this one.
Hindi rollout and reach
Prime Video already had the South Indian versions. Now the Hindi edition is on board for June 5, so it can be seen in more places. We’re told Dacoit: Ek Prem Katha is in line with the eight-week rule of the Multiplex Association of India.
Since they were filming in both Telugu and Hindi at the same time, the Hindi version on the platform doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
What to make of it on Prime Video?
Think of it as a chase thriller with a relationship at its centre. The romance is the spark, the revenge is where it goes off.
Then there is the appeal of watching Sesh and Thakur go at it, with some nice softness and some edge, while the rest of the cast holds down the fort.

Why the OTT version is of interest
With the Hindi launch, the film’s main conflict is open to a bigger crowd without having to plan around showtimes. It also brings back the question of whether love can hold up after a betrayal when you think you’re in the right to be vengeful.
Judging by the noise online, we could be hearing about it again on June 5.
