There’s been a lot of noise from Aamir’s fans of late, and it’s all about a wedding. You can read in several places that he is to tie the knot with Gauri in a registered, home-based ceremony come the 5th of July. No official nod from them yet, but you can bet curiosity is running high.
What’s behind the attention? In part, it’s because of what he’s put out there. Not long ago he was quoted as saying, “In my heart, I’m already married to her.” Then there was the pre-birthday do in Mumbai last year where he made a point of putting Gauri in front of the press, making it clear he was fine with the world knowing about them.
The plan, as we understand it
Assuming the stories are right, it will be an intimate, no-nonsense kind of thing. Those in the know say they’ve gone for a format that is as much for the family as it is for the two of them, with a quiet get-together to top off the registration.
Here is how it is being put forward:
– A registered marriage at Aamir’s home
– To be held on July 5th
– For close friends and relatives only
– They are well into the prep work
– Don’t expect any big public show
Rumours on the guest list
It’s not set in stone, but if you listen to the grapevine, you might see Salman or Shah Rukh make an appearance, if their schedules allow. For a day meant to be under the radar, the mere thought of that is enough to build some hype.
Why it has everyone’s attention
Make no mistake, this is his third marriage, and that lends a certain poignancy to a fairly unassuming event. He has always been open about the fact that he and Gauri are in a committed space, and for him, the marriage is more of a formality than anything else.
“We are partners. We are together. Marriage is something… in my heart, I’m already married to her. So whether we formalise it or not is something that I will decide as we go along.”
Families and timing
Those who are privy to the details say the call to make it official was a recent one, and both sides of the family are in agreement. It is in keeping with Aamir’s way of doing things: keep it private, register the marriage, and have a small gathering on the 5th.
You have to put it in context of his past. There was Reena Dutta, with whom he has Junaid and Ira. And then Kiran Rao, with whom he has a son, Azad, before they called it quits in 2021.
A bit about Gauri
Gauri has a son, Quinn, from an earlier marriage. On her side, she comes from a notable line; her grandfather Philip Spratt was a British Communist who made his way to India in the 1920s and was part of the freedom movement. That kind of pedigree is hard to miss.
Where we go from here
We are still waiting for the confirmation. All we can do is watch and see if they put out a note on the 5th or let the day be. In the meantime, the feeling is good and the well-wishes are being readied.
The story is plain to see: a pair that doesn’t mince words about being in it for the long haul is making it so, on their terms. Should the hush-hush plans come to pass, it will be a refreshing change from the over-the-top weddings we’re used to in Bollywood.
