Delhi Government Schools to Conduct Summer Remedial Classes for Classes 9, 10, and 12

From May tenth through May twenty-third in 2026, Delhi government schools will have extra classes during the summer for students in ninth, tenth, and twelfth grade. These classes are to help students with the basic things they haven't quite grasped yet, and to get them ready for their important exams, specifically in science, math. Classes will be from 7:30 to 10:30 in the morning, and will have enough teachers and materials so each student can get the help they need.

The Directorate of Education is running these extra summer sessions, and they want students to actually learn something during their vacation, rather than just going through the motions. The plan is designed to fill in any learning gaps students have before the next school year starts, and for tenth and twelfth graders who are feeling the pressure of their board exams, to help their grades in the areas where they are struggling.

How schools will run the programme

Schools have been told to give extra help to students who are really finding things hard. The idea is to make sure all districts offer the same level of support, and to have learning materials and basic facilities available during the classes.

What students should expect each morning

The classes are 7:30 am to 10:30 am, and each part of the class will be an hour long. Students need to wear their full school uniform, and their attendance will be recorded on the computer. If a school has two shifts, the classes will be in different parts of the building to stop it from getting too crowded.

Here is a quick checklist for students and parents to stay on track:

– Note dates: 11 May 2026 to 23 May 2026

– Student timing: 7:30 am to 10:30 am

– Wear full school uniform

– Submit parental consent or NOC

– Expect online attendance

– Carry water bottle; use open library

Teachers are to be at school from 7:20 am to 11:00 am to plan the lessons, give the focused help students need, and keep the records. Schools have to make sure there is clean water to drink and other basics available all the time during these extra classes.

Subjects and focus

For ninth and tenth grade, science and math are the main focus, as instructed. School principals can add other subjects if they look at the students’ grades, what the students need to learn, and how many teachers are available. Twelfth graders’ subjects will be chosen by the principals, depending on what those students require.

Key actions for families

Principals must get the schedule for the classes finished before the summer vacation starts, and tell students and their parents about it using every way possible. Parents must say it’s okay for their child to come to these classes (or provide a ‘no objection’ document), so everyone knows what the student will be doing during the break.

To help students learn more, teachers have been told to work with each student individually during the sessions. The school libraries will be open for students to study by themselves and borrow books, and if the normal teachers aren’t available, they might ask supply or contract teachers to help.

Teachers who regularly work at the school and are teaching the extra classes will get time off later as ‘earned leave,’ following the rules of the CCS Leave Rules, as a substitute for the vacation days. Supply teachers will be paid according to the current rules, meaning the school will have enough staff for the classes without making the existing teachers do too much.

Timeline and scope

All Delhi government schools under the Directorate of Education will have their summer break from May eleventh to June thirtieth, 2026. These extra classes are at the very start of the break to keep students thinking about their schoolwork after recent tests and quickly fix any areas they’re weak in.

The official notice says there will be no more extra classes after May twenty-third, 2026. This means a concentrated two weeks of learning, then a full, undisturbed vacation until school starts again after June 13, 2026.

Oversight and accountability

To make sure everything is done the same way at all schools, the Deputy Directors of Education for each District and Zone have to keep a close eye on the program. They need to visit at least two schools each day that are running the classes during the summer vacation.

This instruction allows schools to do things in a way that works for them, but they will be judged on the results. With the early starts, the subjects that are being prioritised, and the planned support, the aim is to improve learning in the areas where it’s most important.
