Police have officers on roofs and at the most important road intersections to watch who is going where in areas of Dwarka and around it that could cause trouble. The police at these important spots are teams of local police and troops from the central government, ready to respond quickly.
Security around the Uttam Nagar East metro station has been made stronger because the Delhi High Court told them to. The government says this is to be prepared, and more police have been sent to Hastsal village, where the March 4 killing happened, and the neighborhoods close by.
Operations around places of worship and public gatherings
Police have increased security at mosques, places for Eid prayers (Eidgahs), and anywhere else many people will gather for Eid. They are regularly patrolling areas, marching in groups and having police walk visibly through the streets. This is to discourage trouble and make people feel safer.
During the busiest times for prayer, cars are being checked and access to important intersections is being controlled. Police are working with leaders in the local community to guide the flow of people and reduce the chance of fights near public areas.
Social media monitoring and surveillance strategies
Police say they are watching social media more closely to find and take down anything that could encourage violence. They’ve already noticed and dealt with some posts that were causing problems, as part of their effort to stop rumors and stirring up people before the holiday.
In addition to the police on the ground, teams are at higher places in certain areas to get a better view of what’s happening. Areas where many different kinds of people live are being considered sensitive and are being watched all the time.
Background of the Uttam Nagar incident
The problems started after Tarun, 26, died from injuries he got in a fight between two families next to each other in JJ Colony during Holi. Police say the fight began when a girl accidentally hit a woman from the other family with a water balloon.
After this incident, people protested and some people burned two vehicles belonging to the people who were accused. So far, 14 people have been arrested for what happened, which made the tension in the area even higher, and two of them are under 18.
Local response and outlook for Eid
Community leaders have a lot of different feelings as the security gets stronger. Pradeep Shukla, who leads a local residents group, says the obvious police presence has brought some control, but people are still worried and aren’t moving around the area as much as they used to.
Police are not just enforcing the law but are also reaching out to people, continuing to march in groups and talk to the community to make people confident before Eid. The government says they are ready to respond quickly to anything and are working to make sure the celebrations are peaceful and aren’t interrupted.
