IndiGo issues advisory for Delhi, Bengaluru flights amid thunderstorms

Because of thunderstorms expected in Delhi and Bengaluru, IndiGo has issued advice for travelers. They want passengers to check their flight's status and give themselves more time to get to the airport. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has a yellow alert for both cities, meaning to expect rain and strong gusts of wind that could change flight times and how good the roads are for driving.

IndiGo says the flights going over Delhi and Bengaluru could be slightly delayed or changed because of the coming thunderstorms. The airline is getting things ready to try to keep everything running as normally as possible, even though it will likely take longer to get planes ready for the next flight. Passengers should look at their flight’s status on the IndiGo website or app before leaving for the airport and should allow extra time for their trip, as the storms could make driving conditions worse.

IMD forecast for Delhi: yellow alert and expected conditions

The IMD’s yellow alert for Delhi predicts very light to light rain with thunderstorms and lightning. Winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour are probable during this time. In the afternoon and evening, we can expect mostly cloudy skies with possibly a couple of light showers alongside the thunderstorms and stronger winds. The high will be 28-30 Celsius, and the low will be around 18-20 Celsius. Earlier, very strong winds and a lot of rain caused an orange alert in some areas, and the people in charge of things reported very strong wind at many places where they measure it.

Bengaluru is also under a yellow alert for moderate rain and thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday. The local weather office thinks the sky will be mostly cloudy during those days. Moderate rain and gusty winds could make travel on the ground slower and affect your trip to the airport. Local weather can change quickly, so travelers should watch for updates and any advice from the IMD.

IMD forecast for Bengaluru: yellow alert and rainfall outlook

Thunderstorms, lightning, and high winds can all make it take longer to get a plane turned around, affect the people working on the ground with the planes, and sometimes mean flights are briefly stopped or have to fly a different way. IndiGo says the weather will likely cause small changes to their schedule. Air traffic control and those who run the airports work closely together when the weather is bad, but passengers should expect possible delays or a change of when their flight leaves. In the past, strong, sudden winds and lightning have caused flights to be sent to different airports and planes to be kept on the ground at big airports. Heavy rain will likely disrupt road traffic too, and that will make your whole journey to the airport take longer. IndiGo specifically suggests adding extra time to your trip to make sure you don’t miss checking in or getting on the plane.

Before you go to the airport, check your flight’s status online or on the IndiGo app for the latest information. Sign up for updates about your flight, and have a digital copy of your ticket and ID for quicker service at the airport. Give yourself more time for driving and think about different routes if the main roads are flooded or very busy. Keep important things like phone chargers, any medicine you need, and a waterproof jacket in your carry-on bag in case you have to wait a long time or your flight has an unexpected stop. When the weather is really bad, stay informed by looking at IMD updates and what the airline is saying. Follow the directions of airport staff, don’t stand by windows during storms, and make sure anything loose inside or outside your house is secure before you leave.
