HMD Vibe 2 5G Launches in India: Android 16, 6000mAh Battery, Indus AI at Rs 10,999

HMD is making its move in India with the Vibe 2 5G, a phone for the under-Rs 10,000 crowd that has 5G, a 6000mAh battery and some AI to boot. Priced at Rs 10,999, it's all about not having to give up on longevity or ease of use to get into the 5G club.

You can put your order in on Flipkart from 26th May. HMD is going after the kind of buyers who are either new to smartphones or looking to make an upgrade, and they want something with a bit of local-language help. That’s where Indus by Sarvam comes in – a homegrown LLM we’ve put at the heart of the device for tasks you do every day.

India-first AI and safety tools

Then there’s the matter of trust. We’ve worked with Sanchar Saathi to put in digital safety tools as part of the government’s own security push. In a price bracket where you don’t always have to be the most powerful, being the one you can rely on is what counts.

Android 16 and update outlook

And you’ll be running on Android 16 right out of the box. You won’t see that from many of our competitors, who are still on older builds and aren’t in a hurry to update. We’re on record for two years of security patches for the Vibe 2 5G. As for an OS upgrade, we haven’t made any promises. It’s a fair way to let you decide if you want today’s software or to wait for what’s down the line.

Hardware highlights and durability

On the hardware side, you get a 6.745-inch HD+ screen with 120Hz for when you’re scrolling. A Unisoc T8200 octa-core is what’s under the hood, and a 6,000mAh adaptive battery will see you through, with an 18W charger in the box. We’ve also made it IP64 rated for water and dust, which is a nice touch for those who like their phones to last.

The 50MP dual camera on the back and 8MP on the front have a little AI to make up for the entry-level nature of the kit, with some optimisation for portraits and low light.

Price, variants and launch details

We have two variants: 4GB/64GB for Rs 10,999 and 4GB/128GB for Rs 11,999. You can have them in Cosmic Lavender, Nordic Blue or Peach Pink.

When the store opens on Flipkart at 12:00 PM on the 26th, you can make it even more of a deal. With some bank offers, you can be in for as little as Rs 9,499.

Key takeaways for budget 5G buyers

Redmi, Infinix, Tecno, Realme – they’re all in this space. HMD isn’t here to win on a spec sheet. We’re trying to offer a phone that is useful in the real world, with clean software and some durability. For the value-conscious, that might be the difference.

If you are weighing options in this bracket, consider these points:
– Android 16 at launch is uncommon here
– Indus AI aims at Indian language use
– IP64 and 6,000mAh favour durability and endurance
– Effective price can reach Rs 9,499
