Xiaomi 17 Max Debuts With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 8,000mAh Battery, Leica 200MP Camera

Xiaomi has put out the 17 Max, a phone with the kind of specs you can put to work: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an 8,000mAh battery, and a 200MP camera from Leica. It's built to last and is as much for the road as it is for the desk.

The 17 Max is Xiaomi’s answer to the need for a phone that can keep up in the real world. You have the new chip, the big battery, and the Leica lens. The idea is to give you flagship performance and better photos while you don’t have to be on top of your power levels.

Battery life that aims to outlast

That 8,000mAh is the biggest in the 17 family and it makes a difference. According to Xiaomi, you’re looking at two days or more on a charge for most people. And they rate it to hold 80% of its capacity even after 1,600 cycles.

When you do need to put some juice in it, you have options. There’s 100W wired and 50W wireless, and if you have a dead accessory or a friend’s phone, you can reverse charge them at 22.5W. For those who are always on the move, it means less time tethered to a wall and one less power bank in your bag.

Leica-tuned camera system for serious shooters

Then there is the camera. The 200MP main with OIS and an f/1.65 aperture is front and centre, using a Samsung HP9 sensor for what Xiaomi calls 13.5EV of dynamic range. You also have a 50MP 3x for close-ups and a 50MP ultrawide with a 102-degree view.

If you’re making content, you can shoot 4K at 30fps and there’s a 32MP for the other side of the lens. It’s all about getting a clean shot in the dark or a steady frame without having to over-rely on digital zoom.

Large display, tougher build

It is a 6.9-inch 1.5K AMOLED, 1200×2608 to be exact. You get 120Hz, 300Hz touch sampling, and the works – HDR10+, Dolby Vision, the lot. In good light, it will hit 3,500 nits.

We haven’t made it flimsy either. Dragon Crystal 3.0 and IP68/69 ratings are in place, and an ultrasonic scanner is under the display. At 225g and 162.9×77.6×8.2mm, it has heft but doesn’t feel like you’re holding a brick.

Flagship power with HyperOS 3

The 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 can run to 4.6GHz. With an Adreno GPU, the AI Engine, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, apps open in a hurry and you can juggle tasks with ease.

HyperOS 3 (Android 16) is what you’ll be running. It has 5G, Wi-Fi 7, BT 5.4, NFC and a full suite of navigation and sensors, from an IR blaster to a barometer.

Pricing, availability, and variants

We saw it at the May 2026 event where we also got the YU7 GT and the Band 10 Pro. The 17 Max comes in Pixel Black, Sky Blue and White. If you’re in China, pre-orders are open and you can have one by May 25th.

For buyers comparing storage and RAM combinations, here is how the pricing breaks down:

– 12GB+256GB at CNY 4,799

– 16GB+256GB at CNY 5,099

– 12GB+512GB at CNY 5,399

– 16GB+512GB at CNY 5,799

In a way, this is the no-nonsense version of the 17. No frills, just a bigger battery and a better camera. If you want a phone that can go the distance and handle whatever you throw at it, this is the one to have.
