Motorola has now officially said the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion will be coming to India, and a page on Flipkart, plus a short video, show it’s going to be revealed on February 23rd. We already know the main details, from leaks and ads – a really big 7,000mAh battery, a 50MP Sony LYTIA camera, and a 6.78-inch OLED screen with a fast refresh rate.
Main features, quickly
The Edge 70 Fusion has a 6.78-inch OLED screen which curves on all four sides; it’s 1.5K resolution and has a 144Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR10+. Motorola says the screen will get very bright – good for seeing it outside and for watching HDR video. Inside, the phone looks like it will have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip, and up to 12GB of RAM. It’s also thought there’ll be an 8GB version, so it will stay in the middle of the market in terms of how well it performs.
Screen, design, and colours
Motorola is trying to give it a high-end feel, with the four curved edges and Gorilla Glass 7i to protect it. The screen being upgraded to 144Hz makes scrolling and moving things on the screen very smooth – gamers and people who use their phones a lot will like that. The phone will be available in textures which look like leather, and colours chosen by Pantone: Blue Surf, Country Air, and Silhouette. These are meant to look good and be easy to hold, and make the phone different from the many shiny glass phones out there.
How well it works and how long it will be supported with software
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 should be more efficient, better at graphics, and better at AI on the phone itself than the one before. People using it should find it’s better at doing several things at once, games run more consistently, and pictures are worked on more intelligently. The advertising also says there will be three operating system updates, so it should get software support for a good length of time for a mid-range phone. That might be important to people who want to keep their phone for a long time.
The cameras
Motorola is putting a 50MP main camera on the back of the Edge 70 Fusion – it’s a Sony LYTIA one – and a 32MP camera on the front for selfies and video calls. What we’ve seen so far shows a dual-camera setup on the back, so it probably won’t have a special telephoto lens. The new chip and AI improvements could make the pictures better, improving the range of light and dark, and pictures taken in low light, even without a lot of lenses. People who want to zoom in a lot on pictures should remember there may be limits to how far the optical zoom can reach.
Battery and how tough it is
The battery is a main selling point: a 7,000mAh battery, with 68W fast charging using a wire, is for people who want their phone to last a long time. The two things together should give you more than a day’s use for ordinary tasks, and quickly charge it up when you need to. It’s also tough: it has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water, and MIL-STD-810H level protection. These standards should give people who want a phone that can survive travel or an active life some peace of mind.
When it will be launched, where you’ll be able to get it, and what the price will be
Motorola is going to show the Edge 70 Fusion on February 23rd, and the Flipkart page already lists the main details and pictures. Which versions will be available, and the final price in India, will be shown at the launch. The price will decide how well it does against other mid-range phones. Looking at the details, the combination of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4, a 144Hz OLED, Sony LYTIA camera, and a 7,000mAh battery makes the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion a good choice for people who want a phone which works well and has a very good battery life. If Motorola gets the price right, it could be better than the other mid-range phones.
