On Tuesday, the NCB seized heroin worth 8.5 crore rupees in Manipur’s Churachandpur district and arrested two suspects, breaking up a drug route. The NCB, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police all worked together in this operation, and targeted Khuakhual which is a far-off place near the Indo-Myanmar border.
Where and how the seizure happened
As stated by an official, during a combined search near Khuakhual, a four-wheeled vehicle and a motorcycle were stopped. Traffickers use this place as a route to bring illegal items across the border.
A careful search of the vehicles revealed 374 soap boxes containing heroin, weighing around 4.267 kilograms. The NCB says this amount of heroin is worth approximately 8.5 crore rupees, and was immediately taken and will be used as proof.
The statement also says the combined operation happened at Khuakhual on Tuesday, and that Khuakhual is a remote part of Churachandpur district.
Arrests and seized equipment
The agency says two people from Churachandpur district were arrested for moving the drugs, and investigators are questioning them to discover what they did in the operation and who else is involved.
Police also found two walkie-talkies used to organize the movement of the drugs. Officials say these were used by those involved to communicate with each other while travelling across difficult landscapes.
Officials highlighted the key developments from the operation:
– 374 soap cases containing heroin recovered
– Approximately 4.267 kg total weight
– Two wireless communication sets recovered
– One vehicle and one motorcycle intercepted
– Two suspects from Churachandpur arrested
Cross-border link and trafficking route
The NCB says it seems the heroin came from Haichin, Myanmar and was going to Churachandpur. This shows that drugs are still being supplied across the border into Manipur.
The agency says this seizure shows how difficult it is to police the Indo-Myanmar border, as it’s easily used by international drug organizations. The land and how isolated it is makes it harder for law enforcement to watch and catch people.
Officials have said they are continuing to keep a close eye on the routes leading into Churachandpur. They are doing more checking to stop the same thing happening again.
NCB’s intensified push in the Northeast
The NCB is increasing its work in the Northeast, specifically along the border with Myanmar, to destroy the groups who are trafficking drugs. Recent cases have resulted in a lot of drugs being seized and people being arrested, which has stopped organized criminal gangs.
The statement says that in 2025 the NCB seized 335 crore rupees worth of drugs in Manipur. And so far in 2026, they’ve seized 75 crore rupees worth. This work is in line with the Indian government’s goal of a Manipur without drugs, and is supported by different agencies working together and using information to enforce the law.
The agency adds that several recent cases have had a big effect on the organized networks of people dealing in drugs in the area. Keeping constant pressure on the known routes is still the most important thing.
What comes next
The investigation into this latest incident is continuing to find and arrest other people in the network. The NCB says teams are looking at who the drugs came from and where they were going.
As outlined by officials, the immediate priorities include:
– Identify additional members of the network
– Trace supply and distribution linkages
– Build inter-agency intelligence on routes
– Pursue strict enforcement against traffickers
This 8.5 crore rupee heroin seizure is part of a series of recent operations in Manipur. The NCB, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police are working closely together to stop drugs from coming in and to weaken the criminal groups which work across the border.
Officials say this latest seizure shows how important it is to get information quickly and to act together. More information is expected as the investigation goes on and more connections are discovered.
