UPSC Results 2025: Selections Decrease to 958 from 1009 in 2024

The 2025 UPSC results show 958 people were chosen, a decrease from the 1009 chosen in 2024. This fall in numbers is seen in nearly all groups, and is in part because of fewer vacancies that were reported. The process is now going on to assign services and train the candidates who were selected.

The Union Public Service Commission – UPSC – has given out the final results of the 2025 Civil Services Examination, or CSE, and has suggested 958 people for jobs in good services like the Indian Administrative Service, IAS; the Indian Police Service, IPS; the Indian Foreign Service, IFS; and other services of the central government.

The number of people selected this year is lower than last year, when 1009 were suggested in the 2024 Civil Services Examination.

Provisional Candidates and Reserve Lists

UPSC also keeps a reserve list each year. In the 2025 exam, the commission has made the places of 348 candidates provisional, and subject to checking of papers and status of reservation.

In the same way, the commission makes reserve lists and extended lists that may be used if more vacancies come up, or people withdraw.

What Happens Next

People suggested in the final list will now go to the service allocation process, where they will be given services like IAS, IPS, IFS and other central services based on their place in the rankings, group and what they want.

After allocation, the people chosen will be trained at different academies, including the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration – LBSNAA – in Mussoorie for IAS officers.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is still one of the most competitive exams in India, with hundreds of thousands of people trying each year for a small number of jobs in the country’s best administrative services.
