Singh told people in Kerala that India has enough fuel and gas for the time being, and is ready for issues with energy supplies if there’s trouble in the Middle East. The Navy is guarding the tankers going through the Strait of Hormuz, and the government is watching things closely to protect both the supplies and Indian citizens.
Indian Navy escorting tankers through the Strait of Hormuz
The Indian Navy is making sure fuel shipments can get through the Strait of Hormuz safely. This waterway is extremely important because a large amount of the world’s oil and gas goes through it.
Having the Navy escort the tankers lowers the chance of those tankers being stopped or attacked, and keeps the supply lines open. Singh described this as being both protective of our fuel, and discouraging anyone from interfering with it, which supports India’s energy security.
The Prime Minister is actively using diplomacy, or negotiation, to calm down the situation in the Gulf and protect what India needs. Protecting fuel with the Navy goes along with the diplomatic efforts, to make sure fuel keeps coming.
Energy security and assurance of fuel supplies
The Minister told the public that there is plenty of fuel and gas available and plans are in place for emergencies. We have ways of watching the situation, stores of oil for later use, and are set to move things around quickly if the supply is interrupted.
Because India gets its oil from many different places and has its own strategic oil reserves, it’s somewhat protected from sudden, short-term problems. Singh said all the government departments are working together to keep prices in the country steady and to stop people from rushing out to buy everything because they’re worried.
Energy security is now very important in the country’s plans. The government is making it clear that the supply of energy is strong and we can react quickly to problems with energy coming from other countries.
Zero tolerance on terrorism and reference to Operation Sindoor
Looking at security on land, Singh strongly warned against Pakistan doing anything to cause trouble. He said any attempt by Pakistan to provoke India would get a response that has never been seen before and would definitely be decisive. This tough stance is part of the government’s policy of having zero tolerance for terrorism.
Singh mentioned Operation Sindoor, which began after the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April and which killed 26 people, as an example of how India will respond more forcefully now. He said that the way we’re dealing with terrorists is more active than it used to be.
The changes to national security that the minister talked about are complete, including being a deterrent at the border, carrying out operations against terrorism, and putting pressure on other countries to lower external threats.
Push for defense self-reliance and maritime capability by 2047
Singh also said that we are making progress in building our own defense equipment and exporting it. Defense exports have gone from 600 crore rupees in 2014 to 38,500 crore rupees, and in 2025-26 they went up 62.66 percent.
India has now gone over 1.5 lakh crore rupees in the value of defense equipment it makes, and wants to reach 3 lakh crore rupees by 2029. Making more things in our own country lowers how much we have to buy from others and helps the Navy continue to get new equipment.
He said the Indian Navy should be one of the strongest in the world by 2047, and said having a strong Navy is connected to the economy being strong and to advances in technology.
Political context and appeal to voters in Kerala
While speaking in Kerala, where there are elections on April 9, Singh asked voters to support his party in the Assembly elections. He said that leadership and a record of keeping the country safe are good reasons to vote for them.
The things Singh said about defense and energy fit in with his campaigning for the election. He showed how the country being secure and being able to make its own weapons for defense show how well the government is doing and how trustworthy it is.
In general, the Minister combined details of what the military is doing, long-term goals, and asking for votes in one speech. This shows he believes that energy security, protecting our shipping routes, and defending the country are all connected.
