Vivo X Fold 6: A Game-Changer in Foldable Tech with Camera and Performance Boosts

The X Fold 6 is Vivo's answer to the next generation of foldables, and it makes its way to China on 26th June. You'll find a 200MP camera, a Dimensity 9500 SoC and OriginOS 6 Fold on board for some serious imaging and multitasking. Over in India, it will be a premium proposition for power users from Rs 1,59,999.

Vivo is making no bones about being hard-charging in the foldable arena with the X Fold 6. The 26th June date in China is set, and we’ve seen some teasers that put the focus on what you can do with the phone. Leaks for the Indian market have the 16GB/512GB model at Rs 1,59,999. It’s all about putting some high-end muscle in front of the user.

Why this launch matters

Pre-reservations are up in China, so there’s clearly some confidence in how it will be received. A new video from the company shows off the kind of multi-tasking and telephoto converter support you can expect – this isn’t just a re-skin of an old design.

It comes down to two things: having the best camera and making good use of that big inner screen. Put it all together and the X Fold 6 has the potential to make some noise among the competition.

Design and displays

We have it from Han Boxiao, the product manager at Vivo, that there will be a sizeable circular module with a quad camera and dual LED flash. Some of the official footage has the phone in three different colours, and then there are the whispers of a “Blue Hole” finish that is supposed to be something out of the deep sea.

Inside you get an 8.02-inch panel that can hit 5,000 nits, and a 6.51-inch cover for when you need to be quick. There’s also word of a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which tells you Vivo is more interested in biometrics that work than in trying to put them in the display.

Cameras and imaging push

The 200MP shooter is a given, and it’s built around Samsung’s 1/1.4-inch HPB. For the periscope, they’re using a Zeiss APO-certified unit with a Sony LYT-602 to keep things sharp and free of colour fringing.

If you believe the leaks, there’s a 50MP ultra-wide in there as well as a 50MP for your zoom needs. And the telephoto converter that was in the promo? That’s for when you want to frame a subject from a distance, whether you’re on a trip or after some wildlife.

Performance and software

They’re calling it the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, but it’s a special run of the chip either way. Vivo is touting 111 per cent more NPU headroom over what you had in the X Fold 5.

As for the OS, it’s running on OriginOS 6 Fold with a better version of the Atomic Workbench for juggling apps. There are also some 6,900 mAh battery numbers floating around, which would make sense if you plan on doing a lot of heavy lifting with the camera and other tasks.

Confirmed highlights so far:

– 26th June for the China debut
– 8.02-inch inside, 5,000 nits at its brightest
– The special-edition Dimensity 9500
– 200MP primary with the Samsung 1/1.4-inch HPB

Pricing, availability, and what to watch

For the 16GB/512GB in India, we’re looking at a Rs 1,59,999 tag. It’s unconfirmed, but it puts the X Fold 6 right up there with the rest of the top-shelf foldables. We’ll have to wait for Vivo to put a fine point on it.

In the lead-up to the 26th, see if they put any flesh on the bone for the ultra-wide and periscope specs, or the battery. They’ve made a point of showing off the software in their teaser, so how it actually performs in the hand will be just as telling as the hardware.

It’s a simple formula: great optics, plenty of processing, and a well-made device. With pre-orders in the books and the videos out, all that’s left is for Vivo to show us the full spec and let us have at it when the time comes.
