The family’s swimming pool in Warangal, Telangana, is where a pregnant woman and her two young daughters were found dead in the water. Police initially heard they had drowned by accident, but now the husband of the woman is the main suspect.
Incident and initial response
On Wednesday evening, Farhat, 26, and her daughters Umera, eight, and Ayesha, six, were found by the pool at their home which is on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway. Family and neighbors pulled the three of them from the water and took them to MGM Hospital in Warangal, but the doctors said they had died.
Azharuddin, Farhat’s husband, first said to the police that the three had slipped and drowned. People in the area said the family made money from the pool, and at first it really did seem like a sad accident, especially as family were there that night.
Investigation and mounting evidence
But the police quickly had doubts after looking at what people said and the evidence at the scene. The security cameras at the pool had been turned off before the incident, and Azharuddin's story didn’t quite match up with what other people said about the timing of events.
Investigators also tracked where Azharuddin’s phone was and it showed he was at the pool when the three died. Because of this, the police changed the case to a murder investigation, officially charged him with the crime, and said he’s now on the run.
Law enforcement steps and manhunt
Dedicated teams of police have been created to find and arrest him, using his phone records and asking people in the area to help them find where he might be. They are also working with police in nearby areas to widen the search and follow up on any possibilities.
Experts in forensic science will probably examine the pool and the area around it for anything relevant. The reports from the hospital about how the three died will be extremely important in proving the cause of death and helping the police build a case to use in court.
Alleged motive: pregnancy dispute and son preference
Family members say Farhat and Azharuddin had been arguing for a long time about their children, and about her current pregnancy. Police sources say Farhat was expecting a baby girl and Azharuddin had been trying to get her to have an abortion, because he wanted a son.
Farhat’s dad told investigators that she had been pressured and that the arguments had gotten worse in the days leading up to the deaths. The authorities are trying to find out if his strong wish for a son was what caused the killings.
Community reaction and broader social concerns
The neighbors were shocked and very sad, and described the family as typical people who worked hard running the pool. Local leaders and residents have asked for a quick and open investigation so that the women and girls get justice.
The case has also brought attention to problems in society, including bias against women and the pressure on women in their own homes to have children of a particular sex. People who support women’s rights are saying that women and children need better protection and the police must respond quickly when families say they are being harassed or threatened.
The search for the man continues, and police are trying to find and arrest him. The authorities say they will follow up on every possibility and collect forensic evidence and statements from witnesses to help get a conviction. As the investigation progresses, people in the community are waiting for information and are asking officials to deal with the situation quickly and carefully.
