A family’s swimming pool in Warangal city, Telangana, is where a pregnant woman and her two little girls were found dead in the water. Police say the initial story of an accidental drowning has changed to an investigation where the husband of the women is the main suspect.
Incident and initial response
On Wednesday evening, Farhat, 26, and her daughters Umera, eight, and Ayesha, six, were found by the pool on their property which is on the Warangal-Khammam National Highway. Family and neighbors pulled the three of them out of the water and took them to MGM Hospital in Warangal, but the doctors said they had died.
Azharuddin, Farhat’s husband, originally told the police that all three of them had fallen in and drowned. People in the area said the family earned money from the pool and at first it seemed like a sad accident with family members having been there that night.
Investigation and mounting evidence
The police quickly became suspicious after looking at what people said and the evidence at the scene. Investigators say the security cameras by the pool were turned off before the deaths and Azharuddin’s story didn’t fit with what witnesses said happened.
The authorities also checked the suspect’s cell phone and found that it showed he was at the pool when the three died. Because of this, the police changed the case to a murder investigation and officially charged Azharuddin, saying he is now on the run.
Law enforcement steps and manhunt
Special teams have been created to find and arrest Azharuddin. They are using his phone records and asking people in the area for information to find out where he might be. The police are also working with nearby police departments to widen the search and follow up on any clues.
Forensic scientists will almost certainly examine the scene and anything collected from the pool and around it. The medical reports from the hospital will be very important for figuring out how the three of them died, and the investigators will use that to build their case for the prosecution.
Alleged motive: pregnancy dispute and son preference
Family members say Farhat and her husband had been fighting for a long time about their children and about her current pregnancy. Police sources say Farhat was expecting a baby girl and Azharuddin had been telling her to have an abortion because he wanted a son.
Farhat’s dad told the investigators that his daughter had been pressured and arguments had gotten much worse in the days before her death. The authorities are investigating if his insistence on having a son was the reason for the killings.
Community reaction and broader social concerns
People who live nearby were very shocked and sad. They describe the family as regular people who worked hard running the pool. Local leaders and people in the area have asked for a quick and open investigation so the victims get justice.
This case also brings up continuing problems in society, including a preference for male children and the pressure on women at home related to what sex the baby will be. Those who advocate for women and children are saying that women and children need more protection and police need to respond quickly when families report being bothered or threatened.
The police are still looking for the suspect to arrest him. Officials say they will follow every lead and collect both forensic and witness statements to help with the prosecution. As the investigation continues, the community is waiting for news and are asking the authorities to deal with the situation quickly and carefully.
