Dr Cyriac Arrested in Jaslia Hit-and-Run Case After Resort Capture

Dr. Cyriac P George - the person police believe was driving in the hit-and-run that killed Jaslia Johnson - was arrested at a resort in Vagamon. This came after the public expressed a lot of worry, and police stepped up the investigation. The fact Jaslia donated her organs also focused attention on the case; Cyriac and his father are both currently involved in legal action.

Police found Dr. Cyriac, who is the main person they accuse in the hit-and-run that resulted in the death of student Jaslia Johnson, by finding him at a resort in Vagamon. They have him in custody, and are going to give him to the Angamaly police. The arrest happened after several days of public concern and a more active investigation.

The Main Accused Is Arrested

Late in the inquiry, police found Dr. Cyriac at a Vagamon resort and arrested him. As officials put it, he will be taken to Angamaly to be processed and questioned. After the vehicle was found and video from cameras was checked, investigators decided he was the most likely suspect.

Police stated Cyriac was a house surgeon student at Chalakudy Medical College. Someone who was his friend was with him in the car when the crash happened. First looks into the matter found no proof the driver or passenger had been drinking alcohol.

What Happened

The collision took place on February 28th close to Telk Junction as Jaslia – a second-year BCom student – was going home from her job. A car hit her and then drove away. A security camera recorded the crash, and this aided police in identifying the car and where it had gone.

Investigators located the vehicle in Thuravoor and took it as evidence in the case. Teams who do forensic work looked at the car and confirmed it was the one in the video. Police put out a notice to be on the lookout for the driver, and anyone who might have assisted in hiding the car.

The Victim and What Happened with Medical Care

Jaslia Johnson had very bad head injuries and was in the hospital for four days, but doctors declared she was brain-dead. Her death caused a strong reaction in the local area, and people again asked for quick action in the investigation.

Jaslia’s family agreed to allow her to donate organs. Her liver went to someone at Aluva Rajagiri Hospital. Her kidneys were given to people at Kottayam Medical College and Amrita Hospital; her corneas were donated to Angamaly Little Flower Hospital.

The Father Is Arrested and Accusations of Trying to Avoid Capture

Police had previously arrested George Mathew – the accused’s father – due to his involvement in trying to help his son avoid being arrested. Authorities said the family locked up their house in Athirampuzha and stayed somewhere that was not revealed while the lookout notice was active.

Officials said this was done to make the investigation harder, and the father’s arrest was to put more pressure on the suspect who was still at large. George Mathew was brought to the Angamaly police station and will probably be in legal trouble related to the case.

Legal Work and What Happens Next

Before his arrest, Cyriac had asked the Kottayam Sessions Court for anticipatory bail – a request the court was set to consider. Now that he is in police hands, the people who prosecute will look at what charges should be filed and the request for bail, considering what has happened recently.

The case is still being actively investigated, with investigators looking at what people have said they saw, forensic proof, and the order of events. Authorities have promised to finish official charges and make sure the legal process is done openly.

The public’s concern over the initial slowness in catching a suspect has made people ask for someone to be held responsible. Police work has been criticised for how slowly it responded, and officials say the recent arrests should make people have faith in the investigation again, while also showing the need for a full look by the courts.
