West Bengal Voter List Update: How to Check Your Name and Handle Missing Entries

After looking at over six million names, the Election Commission has published the fourth and newest voter list for West Bengal. Before the state assembly elections on April 23 and t hen April 29, you should go online and check you are registered, and be sure all the details about you are right. If your name isn't on the list, get in touch with people at your local election office, or fill in Form 6 to get it corrected.

The Election Commission made this fourth list after a lot of looking into “serious issues reports” (SIR) regarding voters. Over six million names were checked as a result, and the goal of the new list is to have the voter information completely up to date for the upcoming election. Voters who plan to vote in the next few weeks really need to have this update.

Current status of the fourth supplementary list

The four stages of review were completed when judges all over the state finished checking. Seven hundred and five judges assessed the six million names that had been marked for checking in the list published at the end of February. The Election Commission says the new list is now available, but hasn’t told us how many names have been removed or added.

This fourth updated list is now the official version in any areas where the SIR process was used. You should consider this the current, official record for the election, and check your registration right now.

How to check your name online in the West Bengal voter list

You can find out if you’re on the list by going to the Chief Electoral Officer West Bengal website at ceowestbengal.nic.in. The website allows you to search by your EPIC (voter ID) number, or by your name and which area of the assembly you live in. When you search, you’ll be given your part number, serial number, and where your polling station is.

Another good place to go is the National Voters’ Service Portal at nvsp.in. This site brings together all the voter lists, and you can submit Form 6 here and also track its progress. The Voter Helpline app is easy to use on your phone, too. Having your EPIC number ready will make the search faster.

Verifying your polling booth and serial number

When you have found your name, write down the part number and serial number shown on the page. These numbers tell you exactly which polling station you use, and what number you are on the list at that station on election day. Knowing this beforehand will prevent problems at the polling place.

If the website says you are going to a different polling station than you expected, contact your Booth Level Officer (BLO) or the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO). The local offices have the updated lists on paper and can tell you where you are supposed to vote.

Steps to take if your name is missing from the voter list

If you can’t find your name on the list, first talk to your BLO or the District Election Office. The reason it is missing may be because of the SIR checks, where it wasn’t possible to prove you are eligible to vote or where you live. They can tell you why it’s missing and what to do next.

You can make a complaint, or fill in a new Form 6 on the NVSP or the Voter Helpline app, as long as the period for making changes to the list is still open in your area. When you apply, include good proof of your age, who you are, and where you currently live to make your application stronger.

Key election dates and practical advice for voters

The election for the 294 members of the assembly will happen in two parts: April 23 and April 29, and the votes will be counted on May 4. Because of these dates, it’s very important to check your registration well before election day, so you have time to complain or apply again if necessary.

Take your EPIC to the polling station, get there early, and have the part and serial numbers with you. If you’re using a mobile app or a digital ID, make sure your device has plenty of power and you have screenshots or a printed copy of your details. If you have a problem that isn’t being solved, keep contacting the ERO and BLO to make sure you can vote.

This list will help voters with the updated West Bengal voter list and fix any missing names easily, and so be able to vote in this important election.
