What was an anxious week for an Aussie YouTuber came to a good ending when the Aligarh force put their hands on his phone. Jake Jeakings, who had his iPhone 16 Pro Max lifted by a pickpocket, is calling the whole recovery “sensational”.
From panic pings to a hopeful lead
It all went down at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 31, 2026, or so Jeakings puts it. There were some things on there you can’t get back – old pictures of his grandad, a high school memento, some of his pets. iCloud only goes so far.
You could see the stress in his social media feed over the course of the week. He put out some frantic posts about the phone being on the move and how a number he was after wasn’t picking up. He even put out a call to folks in Rajasthan for some advice after he’d already put in a report.
This is how he broke it down:
– Phone was taken in Ahmedabad on May 31, 2026
– We’re talking an iPhone 16 Pro Max
– Five days later, they have it
– A special thanks to Abhishek Gautam
Aligarh Police step in
Jeakings made a trip to the Aligarh Police office to put in an appearance and meet with the Senior Superintendent of Police. In an official statement, the police noted his appreciation for the way they handled things. He had kind words for the head of the Surveillance Cell, Abhishek Gautam, in particular.
He put some photos from the visit online and said it was a pleasure to be in possession of the phone once more. He made a point of saying that the man who made it happen is an “amazing guy” and an “amazing person”.
Five tense days, one relieved creator
There was nothing ordinary about this. He put it all out there, the pin drops and the dead ends, until he could finally say the team had the device. “Absolute amazing service,” he wrote, and he made sure to give a big hand to Abhishek Gautam.
You could feel the relief in the comments section from both die-hard fans and the rest. They were hailing the police and the happy ending, with some chipping in to say he shouldn’t go home with any hard feelings. In a few hours, the mood had changed completely.
Why this resonated with fans
More than a tale of a missing phone. It was a bit of a cross-city conundrum that got sorted through some legwork and a little luck. The setting of the IPL final made for a likely place for a theft; the value of the contents made for a hurry; and the way the police put it right made for a story worth telling.
For those of us who like to make content or just follow the action around the world, it’s good to know. Even if a pickpocket makes off with something in a full house, you can still get it back if you put your mind to it. This time around, it was enough to put things right and make a good memory of it.
What happens next
Jeakings left us with a friendly sign-off: “until next time Aligarh, see you soon.” After the kind of week he’s had, that kind of good cheer is the best part of the story.
