Nitin Nabin has called for a high-stakes huddle in the capital on June 1st. It’s as much about tying in the party’s anniversary with some hard organisational calls as it is a way to show his hand as president before the election clock starts ticking for the Rajya Sabha and Assemblies.
Agenda blends outreach with overhaul
If you ask the people in the know, this is where they will put the final touches on the push to mark the Narendra Modi era. They have brought in the top brass from the national and state level, the morcha heads and the comms team. A few Union Ministers with some anniversary events to put in place are likely to be part of the room, too.
Then there is a date on the books for June 10th: a sit-down with the Chief and Deputy Chief Ministers of the NDA states. Word is they will map out how to handle the year of celebrations and public face, so that what the government does and what the party says don’t cross each other’s paths.
Leadership churn on the horizon
But it isn’t all about the message. The org chart is being re-examined. By the book, the president is to put forward a new national team come June. Some in the office see the 1st as the last time they’ll be in one room before the changes, and they’re looking for a mix of old guard and fresh blood.
There are also side talks on how to juggle roles in the government and the party. A few may leave a ministry for a post in the organisation or the other way round. Nabin’s own path is a case in point: he was made working president in December 2025, got the top job in January 2026, and in April was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar.
Elections calendar intensifies pressure
The sense of urgency is down to a full plate of polls. Next year, the BJP has to field in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Punjab is up for grabs in the same window, and in 2027, the party will be in the ring in Gujarat, which is always a bit more than just an election for them.
Some moves have already been made. In May, they put in four new state chiefs, like in Delhi where Harsh Malhotra has taken over from Virendra Sachdeva. There’s a new head in the Punjab unit as well. Karnataka is the only holdout for now, with B.Y. Vijayendra still in place until they decide.
Rajya Sabha math enters the room
Picking the right candidates is going to be the order of the day. Party sources say a top-level review of the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council prep is on for Sunday night, May 31st, at PM Modi’s Seva Teerth home. There is also a key Central Election Committee meeting to be held there this evening.
The Commission has put 24 seats in 10 states on the docket for June 18th. With the deadline to file on June 8th, and some retirements due between the 21st and the 19th of July, the party has to be sharp with its numbers and who it puts up.
Here is the breakdown by the numbers:
– Karnataka: four
– Gujarat: four
– Andhra Pradesh: four
– Rajasthan: three
– Madhya Pradesh: three
– Jharkhand: two
– Manipur: one
– Meghalaya: one
– Arunachal Pradesh: one
– Mizoram: one
What to watch next
Come June 1st, the plan for the outreach should be in stone. Insiders are also looking for a formal word on Nabin’s team and any give-and-take of roles between the two wings of the party.
By the 10th, the CMs and DCMs will be expected to lay out their state’s plans for the year. And before the 8th, we should see the names for the Upper House, which will tell you how the party means to get through the 18th without losing sight of the 12-year story they want to tell.
