If you’re into your thrillers, get ready. The film has wrapped and is making its way through the editing room, with Devgn and Tabu back in action come October. Pathak is on record saying this isn’t just about tying up loose ends; he’s after a new kind of tension with a Hindi-first approach and a climax you haven’t seen before.
A track made for some bigger gasps
According to Pathak, this one is more of a family thriller than the drama at the heart of the original. He’s put together a ‘completely different’ experience for the Hindi crowd, one that has the first two films in mind but doesn’t follow in their footsteps.
And it’s not all for show. The people behind the scenes have let it be known they’ve reworked the endgame. You’ll see how far apart the two versions are once the trailer comes out, Pathak says.
Here is what you need to know:
– We are in post-production
– October 2, 2026 is the date
– A new ending for the Hindi version
– Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat are on board
– We were in Goa for the shoot last December
The wrap: a word to the crew and the fans
Pathak put out a post on social media to make it official, with some photos from the set and a few words. It was a nod to the long hours and the kind of problem-solving that only happens on a film like this. He called it a tribute to the crew, whose work you can feel in every frame.
There was a shot of him in front of a monitor, and another of the clapboard with ‘It is a wrap’ on it. He made sure to thank everyone who put in the hard yards when it was needed most.
The cast and the return of Vijay Salgaonkar
You have Ajay Devgn as Vijay once more, the one man who will keep his family’s secrets. Tabu is with him, as are Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutt and Rajat Kapoor. Then you have Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat coming in to make things interesting.
Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak have put the stamp on it: the shoot is over, though there is still some fine-tuning to be done. The film is a joint effort by them, Ajit Andhare and Alok Jain, with Panorama and Star Studios in the corner of the producers.
Then there is the Malayalam version
Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 came out in May 2026 and did well, to put it mildly. It’s already past Rs 200 crore in a matter of weeks. But the Hindi side has no intention of being a clone of that success.
They are making their own way. Pathak is unambiguous: this is a thriller, not a domestic soap. If you think you can predict where Vijay is going, you might be in for a surprise.
When and what to look out for
Cinemas open for us on October 2. The marketing will no doubt make a point of the differences, and hint at an ending that will rattle some of the old guard.
After what Drishyam 2 did in 2022, the bar is high. So all eyes will be on the trailer once it is ready to go.
Some well-deserved noise
We have been in Goa since December, with the coast in the background. It is the right place to be for a bit of paranoia. Old ground, new obstacles. That’s the draw.
Devgn has Ranger and Golmaal 5 down the line, but for the moment, Drishyam 3 is the one on everyone’s radar. The pieces are in place. Now we wait and see.
