Households have some time to get ready before the 30-hour water supply hiccup next week. The Delhi Jal Board has put out the word: there will be a planned shutdown from 10:00 AM on 6 July 2026 to 4:00 PM on 7 July 2026. Taps in swaths of South and Central Delhi may run dry or have little pressure.
Timings and scale of disruption
We are looking at a 30-hour window from 10:00 AM Monday, 6 July 2026, to 4:00 PM the following day. On top of that, the agency has put a note on an 8-hour impact for the South Delhi Main from 10:00 AM on 06/07/2026, so some may notice low pressure in the evening of that date.
The board says they will get things running again as soon as the interconnection is put in place. In the meantime, it is best to plan for the full stretch as well as the more localised hit.
Why the shutdown was unavoidable
Essential work is the cause. This includes hooking up a new 1500 mm mild steel line (the GK Main) by the Taimur Nagar drain in Khizrabad village. There is also some heavy lifting to be done on the 1900 mm South Delhi Main over at the Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plant.
In an advisory, the board has cautioned that parts of South Delhi will see no water or very little on 06 July 2026. They have asked people to make sure they have enough in reserve and to use the helplines to put in for a tanker if need be.
Areas that should plan for low or no water
Some of the localities in the crosshairs are Kailash Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, CWG Village, Patparganj, Okhla, Zakir Nagar, Batla House, DESU Colony, NDMC and those around them.

In South Delhi, Lajpat Nagar, South Extension, Kotla Mubarakpur, Seva Nagar, Amar Colony, Srinivaspuri, Devli, Dakshinpuri, Ambedkar Nagar, Shahpur Jat, Greater Kailash (South), Malviya Nagar and Meera Bai could be without or on low pressure.

What to make of it
There is an apology from the board for the hassle and a nudge to be sensible with what is on hand until the job is finished. Best not to leave it to the last minute and to have a plan for both outage periods.
To keep the inconvenience to a minimum, here is what to do:
– Have your water in before 10:00 AM on 6 July.
– Make do with what is essential and space out any high-use chores.
– Work with the RWA on getting a tanker in.
– Put the helpline numbers where they can be seen.
– Follow the board for any news as the day goes on.
Supply will be back to how it should be once the interconnection is in, per the board. For now, being prepared is the only way to go.
