Kangana Ranaut Returns to Lock Upp as Janta Ki Awaaz with Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh

Kangana Ranaut is in the house for Lock Upp, this time as Janta Ki Awaaz. With Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh on the jury, the show on Netflix is set to be a lot of things: hard-hitting, unfiltered, and very much of the moment. As we head into the first termination, you can count on some pointed questioning and a good deal of truth-telling.

She’s back in the fold of Lock Upp, but don’t expect the same old boss. Kangana is in with Farah and Riteish right as the season is making its way to an early exit. The show has been making waves for its no-nonsense approach, so there will be some friction to be had.

Kangana’s return, in a new role

The original host is here to put the audience’s point of view on the table. It’s about bridging the gap with the inmates and letting the public have a say in how the story unfolds, through some firm interrogation if need be.

In her own words: “This show has always been about owning your truth, even when it’s not easy. I’m with Farah and Riteish as the jury or the Janta Ki Awaaz for the first termination of Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa this weekend. All I’ll say is, every choice comes with a cost.”

New format, new stage

Don’t think of this as a rerun of what we’ve seen before. Ektaa Kapoor was in Mumbai to make it clear they’ve put together a different kind of show, one without the old jailer-judge dynamic. “Holding on to the past wouldn’t have given us a fresh look,” she said, and I’m sure Kangana would be in on that.

Moving to Netflix is more than for show. Ektaa says they are taking the gloves off, where every secret and call you make has to be answered for. It’s a bit of a social experiment with plenty of drama, and we’re putting it on a bigger screen.

You can find Lock Upp: Sach ya Sazaa on Netflix from 27 June, any day from Saturday to Wednesday at 8 PM.

What has everyone talking

It hasn’t taken long for Season 2 to get under your skin. You’ve got Ram and Shreya at odds, and a row over infidelity that has the house and the internet in an uproar.

“If you love your partner, nothing is a non-starter, not even cheating… after 10, 20 years in a marriage, you make mistakes,” is what you hear from Ram. Akanksha Chamola won’t have it: “Cheating is a choice. They do it on purpose.”

Life in the cell: the give and take

We have 15 people in here, and they are being watched. For six weeks it’s all about the grind – the tasks, the chargesheets, the punishments. Make a misstep and you can change the whole story in a night.

You’ll see some of the usuals like Ram, Shivangi, Sunita, Dheeraj, Riyaz, Sufi and Akanksha. But with Janta Ki Awaaz in the room, their path to redemption is going to be measured by how the audience feels, not just the politics in the house.

That is where Kangana comes in. She isn’t just running the show; she is putting it to the test. So prepare for some tough calls and a public eye on every excuse made.

Keep an eye on these for the weekend:
– How Kangana handles the first termination
– Some unexpected power moves
– The kind of confessions that only come out under pressure
– The case for who stays and who goes

Looking ahead

The big one: who is out and what for? The jury is on top of things and the work is piling up, so the inmates have to stand by what they do or crumble.

A co-production of Balaji Telefilms Ltd and Colosceum (with Malaya Pradhan as Executive Producer), the franchise has been around since 2022 on ALTBalaji and MX Player. But the jump to Netflix is already having an impact.

Catching up? The pace is quick and it only gets more intense. Between Farah, Riteish and Kangana, this week could set the tone for everything to come. We’ll be on at 8 PM, Saturday through Wednesday.
