For its newest foray into the mid-range, Samsung has made longevity and a bit of everyday refinement the order of the day. The Galaxy A27 5G is here in India with a 120Hz Super AMOLED, a half-decade’s worth of updates and the 6 Gen 3 to make sure it outlives the competition, all while keeping the price tag at a reasonable Rs 28,999.
Long-term support and smarter software
The A27 5G has a straightforward proposition if you’re not in the habit of changing phones often. You have Samsung’s word for six rounds of Android and One UI, plus six years of security. Out of the box it has One UI 8.5 on top of Android 16, which is hard to come by in this class.
There is some substance to the AI on offer, too. Circle to Search lets you do a multi-object lookup in one go, so you can be done with your product checks or a bit of research in no time. And for photos, you’ve got a swifter eraser, My Filter and a handful of AI edits that run on the device itself – no need to put them in the cloud.
Then there are the comms side of things. With live transcription, voice focus and call captions, the intent is to make talking on the phone a bit more inclusive. You also have Google Gemini and Perplexity in the mix, as well as Bixby, while the like of Knox, Knox Vault and Samsung Wallet see to the security and the paying of bills.

Display and design that prioritise practicality
This is a screen made for when you want to put in some time with it. The 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED is 120Hz smooth, with the kind of contrast and colour you’d expect. It can get to 1,400 nits at peak, and even at 800 for HBM, you won’t have to squint at a map or a text in the sun.
Design-wise, it’s nothing to write home about, and that’s fine. It’s a clean, unobtrusive look with flat edges, a punch-hole in the middle and a neat back. Be it in Light Green, Light Pink or Black, it’s subtle. Sure, the 3.5mm bezels and a chin are there, but the display makes up for it.
What stands out is how tough it is. Having Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front is not something you see much for the money, and the IP64 will stand up to dust and a few splashes. Samsung will tell you they’ve put it through a 2-metre drop test, so you can be at ease with the odd bump and scrape.
Performance gains and battery outlook
Inside, you have the 4nm Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 to keep things running with a good mix of pace and efficiency. By the numbers, Samsung is touting a 47 per cent jump in CPU, 38 in the GPU and 13 in the NPU from what came before, and that should show in the way it handles AI and the camera.
And they’ve given the memory and storage a bit of a nudge as well.
With LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage on board, Samsung is touting a 50% bump in memory speed. We put it to the test in our first go-around: apps switch in a flash, there’s no hiccups in the setup, and you won’t see any lag in the animations.
Power comes from a 5,000mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging. You might see some of the competition with 6,000 or 7,000mAh cells, but then again, Samsung’s take on efficiency and a lighter build has its own draw. We’ll be putting the endurance and charge times through their paces with some heavy gaming and multitasking.

Cameras and where you make do
The three-lens setup on the back is all about the basics. The 50MP main with OIS is the star, with a 5MP ultrawide and 2MP macro for good measure. Don’t expect a telephoto; for your everyday zooming, Samsung has you covered with 10x digital. Up front, a 12MP HDR is on hand for video calls and the like. If you’re a creator, one thing to be aware of: 4K is a rear-cam only feature. For the most part, the OIS on the primary should do its job of keeping your handheld video and low-light photos steady.
Like with any phone in this class, it’s how they handle different light that matters. Be it a portrait in the sun or a night shot, we’ll have to see if the A27’s sensor can hold its own. OIS is a plus, but we let the real-world use make the final call.
How much and where to get it in India
The A27 5G is set to upend a very full segment. You can pick up the 6GB/128GB model for Rs 28,999. Step up to 8GB of RAM and you’re looking at Rs 31,999 for 128GB or Rs 37,499 for 256GB.
There are some perks to be had, like a Rs 3,000 bank or UPI cashback and EMI with zero cost. Starting July 3, you can order it from Samsung online or in-store, in Light Green, Light Pink or Black.
To put it in a nutshell:
– 6GB + 128GB: Rs 28,999
– 8GB + 128GB: Rs 31,999
– 8GB + 256GB: Rs 37,499
– Plus a Rs 3,000 cashback
It’s a bit of a hike from the last model’s Rs 24,999, and most will point to the current supply side of things as the reason. But when you factor in the 120Hz Super AMOLED, the Gorilla Glass Victus+, IP64 rating, and six years of support, it’s hard to argue with what you get for around 30 grand.
Our first look tells us Samsung is more interested in long-term value than just racking up numbers. Now we have to find out if the camera is consistent, if it holds up when you put it to work, and how the battery fares over time. We’ll be running those tests to see if the A27 5G is all it’s made out to be.
