It’s a matter of timing for thousands of Himachal Pradesh students looking for a second chance at the boards. HPBOSE has put out the call for 2026 compartment and improvement exam sign-ups, with 1 June 2026 being the hard line for a no-fee application.
Why this window matters for students
The compartment route is for anyone who didn’t make it through one or more of the annuals, and the improvement option is for those after a better score. The board says they will be rolling over your internal and practical marks from the main exam, so don’t expect to be put in front of a separate practical.
HPBOSE is making it a point to tell candidates to be thorough with the online form and double-check everything before you hit submit. With the clock ticking, a little foresight now means you won’t be paying a late fee and your plans for the June-July 2026 sittings stay on course.
Deadlines and late fee policy
You can register at hpbose.org. File by June 1, 2026 and there’s no penalty. But if you miss that, the notice says we’ll still take your application up to June 5 for an extra 1000.
We’ve put the compartment and improvement papers in the calendar for June and July 2026. Keep an eye on the website in the coming days; the date sheet and admit cards will be up there shortly.
What it costs: Class 10
For matric, the price tag depends on what you’re going for. Have a look before you apply so you don’t run into any surprises:
– Optional improvement (up to three compulsory): 950
– Compartment: 700 a subject
– Essential Improvement: 700 a subject
– An extra subject: 700
No late fee if you’re in by June 1, 2026. After that, you can still apply with a 1000 surcharge until the 5th.
What it costs: Class 12
Plus Two students wanting to put up their numbers in one or more subjects will be charged 1150. It’s 700 for compartment or English-only, and the same for re-appearing diploma holders or if you add on a subject.
June 1, 2026 is the cut-off for the standard rate. We will accept forms with a 1000 late fee until June 5, 2026.
Who can apply and what happens next
In the Essential Improvement bracket for Class 10, you’re in if you have at least three of the five compulsory under your belt from the main exam and want to try for the ones you missed. And if you’ve already passed but are after a higher mark, the notification says you can come in too.
Just to be clear, we won’t be allowing a new set of students in for the June-July round. For improvements, we’ll count the higher of the two when we tabulate the final result, which should be enough of a nudge to do well this time around.
Don’t let your form get thrown out. Here’s what to remember:
– Stick to the official portal, hpbose.org
– Make sure every field is filled in
– Give it a once-over before you submit
HPBOSE will not be lenient with incomplete or non-compliant forms. Since the date sheet and hall tickets are on the way, we suggest you check the portal from time to time for any changes.
