Alpha: Bobby Deol Praises Alia Bhatt’s Intensity in YRF’s First Female-Led Spy Thriller

There's no hiding the way Bobby Deol is touting Alia Bhatt's work in Alpha, YRF's foray into a female-led spy thriller. He has nothing but good words for her hard-nosed approach to the action. With Shiv Rawail at the helm and Aditya Chopra producing, you can count on some unvarnished, no-BS action and a new spin on the YRF Spy Universe when it hits screens on July 10, 2026.

Bobby is raving about the kind of intensity Alia brings to Alpha, which is the first of its kind from YRF’s hit-making stable. He was left in awe by how ready she was for some of the more punishing scenes, and that kind of endorsement only adds to the buzz before we see it in cinemas come July 10, 2026.

Why everyone is talking about it

In Bobby’s book, Alia is up there with the most down-to-earth and hardworking actors he’s been around. She’d be on set with everything in place, and he was put off by how well she made an action sequence look like second nature, even if it was new to her. You can’t fudge your way through an action scene, as he’ll tell you, but Alia put in the work. The bottom line is this: what you’re going to see is physicality that’s been put in, not put on. She’s trained to make every takedown ring true.

Something different in the YRF Spy Universe

With Alia Bhatt and Sharvari front and centre, Alpha is a bit of a departure. In a universe built on scale, you have to respect the change of pace. It’s a way of bringing in some new life without letting the stakes drop. Then again, it is the sixth time out for the YRF Spy Universe, so there’s a lot of history to live up to – think Pathaan, War, Ek Tha Tiger, and Tiger Zinda Hai. Alpha is here to meet that standard and then some.

It was a grind to put together

You have to give credit to producer Aditya Chopra and director Shiv Rawail for their stance on making the action feel lived-in. Bobby says it made for a harder shoot, but you don’t get to cut any corners and you end up with more of an effect. He’s telling you to go in and have a good time. Put another way: we’re in for some set-pieces with a little more bite and less of the glitz.

The Alia-Bobby pairing

This is the first time the two have been in the same room for a film, and Bobby is happy about it. He has a soft spot for the Kapoor-Bhatt duo; after his run with Ranbir in Animal, it was only a matter of time before he was in the frame with Alia.

He had a great time with them both. On this one, though, you get a mix of rapport and friction, with Bobby in his element as the bad guy in a world where things are bound to blow up.

Who’s behind the camera (and in front of it)

Shiv Rawail, of The Railway Men, is the man in charge, with Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Films on the production side. You’ll find Alia and Sharvari leading the way, with Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key parts.

We got our first hint of what was coming in a post-credits stinger for War 2 last year. It was a taste of a rougher edge, and for those who follow the franchise, it was a fair warning of a sterner tone to come.

What’s to come

To Bobby, Alpha is a breath of fresh air. Sure, having two women in the driver’s seat is part of it, but it’s the way it will play on the big screen that makes it stand out. A long-running series needs that to hold your attention.

Here is what you need to know before you buy in: – The YRF Spy Universe’s first with a woman at the top

When you hear Bobby on, it doesn’t sound like he’s just reading a press release; it’s the kind of feeling you have after a long, hard shoot. If he’s right, and some of that comes across, Alpha is in for a good run and Alia is in for the role of a lifetime.
