Mahindra has started selling the XEV 9S in India. This electric SUV has three rows of seats and costs from 19.95 lakh rupees. You can get it in six different versions, with batteries that range from 59 to 79 kWh in size. These batteries provide up to 210 kW of power, allow the car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds, give a range of over 500 km, and can be quickly charged with a DC charger. Some of the best features are the three screens inside, seats that cool you down, Level 2+ ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and a suspension system that changes to the road conditions. You can reserve yours starting January 14, 2026.

Mahindra launched the XEV 9S in India as a seven-seat, three-row electric SUV for families or companies that need lots of room but don’t want to give up speed. It’s built on the INGLO base, and Mahindra describes it as a smart, roomy SUV that is very quiet and provides a smooth ride.

Mahindra XEV 9S price and variants in India

The XEV 9S begins at 19.95 lakh rupees (ex-showroom) and the most expensive, the fully-equipped Pack Three Above 79 kWh, is 29.45 lakh rupees. At first, six models are available: Pack One Above 59kWh (19.95 lakh rupees), Pack One Above 79kWh (21.95 lakh rupees), Pack Two Above 70kWh (24.45 lakh rupees), Pack Two Above 79kWh (25.45 lakh rupees), Pack Three 79kWh (27.35 lakh rupees), and Pack Three Above 79kWh (29.45 lakh rupees). You can test drive the car from December 5th. Reservations open on January 14, 2026, and the first cars will be delivered on January 23, 2026.

Battery options, performance and range

Mahindra offers three different battery sizes: 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh. The power available depends on the battery pack: 170 kW with the 59 kWh battery, 180 kW with the 70 kWh battery, and up to 210 kW with the 79 kWh version. Mahindra says the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds and can reach a top speed of 202 km/h.

With a DC fast charger, you can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes using a 180 kW charger with the 79 kWh battery, or a 140 kW charger with the 59 kWh battery. The 70 kWh pack in the Pack Two Above version can use DC fast charging up to 160 kW. Mahindra says a full charge will give you over 500 km of driving in normal use, and this varies depending on the specific model and how you drive. It recovers energy while slowing down in multiple stages, has an ‘Auto Mode’ for recovering more energy on the more expensive versions, and a ‘one-touch single-pedal drive’ which uses just one pedal for acceleration and braking, all of which help you go further on a charge.

Design, dimensions and road presence

The XEV 9S’s appearance takes modern, clean lines from other recent Mahindra electric cars and the XUV.e8 concept. Mahindra’s ‘Heartcore’ design makes the vehicle look tall and strong, has a grille that is solid, LED daytime running lights that connect, and triangular LED headlights that show it’s electric.

The long hood and strong wheel arches make the SUV look bigger. It has 18-inch wheels, with covers for the wheels on the cheaper versions and alloy wheels on the more expensive ones. The wheelbase (the distance between the front and rear wheels) is 2,762 mm and the ground clearance is 205 mm, increasing to 222 mm where the battery is.

You can have the XEV 9S in Desert Myst, Everest White, Midnight Black, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet, or Stealth Black.

Space, seating and practicality

Because it’s a proper seven-seat electric SUV, the XEV 9S is designed around space and being able to change the seating. Mahindra says the front and middle rows have a combined 4,076 litres of space. The third row seats split 50/50, and the middle row seats split 60/40, and both can be slid forward and back and reclined. There’s plenty of space in this car, with a 150-liter trunk in the front (called a frunk) and up to 527 liters in the back if the very back seats are folded down. It turns in a 10 meter circle, making it easy to get around in busy cities.

Cabin technology and comfort features

One of the most striking things about the inside is the three screens going all the way across the dashboard: a digital screen for the driver, a touchscreen in the middle, and a screen for the passenger. And there are two extra screens in the back, plus a place to mount your own devices, turning the car into a place for entertainment.

Even the basic versions have three 12.3-inch screens, a Qualcomm 8155 computer chip, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 5G connection and apps that are already installed. Better models get a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos and Sonic Studio from Mahindra.

Other good features are a panoramic sunroof and special thick glass to block out noise, cooled front seats and cooled second row seats in the better trims, dual-zone climate control with special “smart” modes called PawPal, Keep Mode, and CampMe, wireless charging pads (one or two depending on the trim), the ability to unlock the car with your phone using NFC, and features you can access through the Me4U app. Upper trims also include a Lounge Desk, a place to mount your own device, a tray for snacks, and a cooled place to store things in the console.

Safety and ADAS explained

Safety is really important in the XEV t9S. The SUV has up to seven airbags, including one for the driver’s knee in the more expensive versions. It has a very strong body, disc brakes on all wheels, an electronic braking system, an electronic brake booster, tire pressure monitoring (with readings as it happens), and an electronic parking brake, all standard or available on most models.

The advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) gets better with higher trims: “Pack Two Above” gets Level re ADAS, with one radar and a camera, a 360-degree camera, a monitor to show you if something is in your blind spot, and sensors at the front for parking. “Pack Three” improves to Level 2+ ADAS with five radars, something that keeps the car in the center of the lane, the ability to start changing lanes automatically (with the driver’s permission), steering to avoid emergencies, and warnings when something is crossing behind you.

The very best versions add VisionX AR HUD (a head-up display using augmented reality), Secure360 which shows a live view of the car and records it, and Eyedentity which watches the driver and passengers. AutoPark Assist, video calls and recording the drive are available on “Pack Three Above” and it uses the Qualcomm 8295 computer chip.

Suspension and ride

Mahindra gives the XEV 9S iLink front and 5-link rear suspension as standard. “Pack Three” adds suspension that adjusts to the road for a smoother, more comfortable ride on different surfaces. The thick glass and soundproofing in the cabin make it a more refined experience.

Running costs and business case

Mahindra says it will cost around 1.2 rupees per kilometer to run and about 40 paise per kilometer for maintenance. Businesses can benefit from a 40% reduction in the car’s value over time and very little road tax in many areas, which makes this seven-seat electric SUV good for company fleets.

Manufacturing, exports and sustainability

Mahindra is planning to be able to make up to 8,000 electric SUVs a month (including the XEV 9S) by March 2026. The company’s leaders say they will carefully choose which countries to sell to at first. They are also looking into ways to reuse the batteries in the long run, and will use what they have learned from their electric three-wheelers.

Because of its competitive price, lots of features and the fact that it seats seven, the Mahindra XEV 9S is a good deal in India’s rapidly expanding electric SUV market. It’s a modern electric vehicle for both families and businesses, and doesn’t forget what you need in your daily life.
