Battery options, performance, and range
Testing the green electric car Mahindra XEV 9S phase 1 with the FV of 5 has already started by the company. The new car has three different battery options – 50 kWh, 70 kWh, and 80 kWh. The 100 kW motor delivers great performance, drawing energy from the battery with the help of an inverter. The 80 kWh version delivers a very generous 555 km range on the NEDC cycle, which is one of the best in the market in its class.
Mahindra is the company that provides with the service of three battery choices, and the company describes its products as 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh. They have different power output depending on the pack, for example, 170 kW and 59 kWh, 180 kW and 70 kWh, and a high of 210 kW on the 79 kWh variant. Throughout the 59 kWh, 60 kWh, and 79 kWh choices, the highest available power is also the highest speed, but in that case, the speed was reduced to 202 km/h. The brand makes a claim that their model will go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.0 seconds apart from the other features we already mentioned.
At this point, we can conclude that Mahindra has put all the necessary features in their product to make it more comfortable for the users. However, good as the product is, nothing can match the brute power of nature’s own way of obtaining air, sunlight, and water. It is also claimed that their model can reach a top speed of 202 km/h.
Just like the battery, the brand has the same options for charging, meaning they offer great connectivity and time efficiency.
The look of the XUV.e8 and recent EVs from Mahindra, is the main inspiration behind the XEV 9S with its clean and futuristic design. The technology that is part of Mahindra’s ‘Heartcore’ design make it have an erect shape, a closed grille, tied together DRLs made of LED, and that electric identity is further indicated by the triangle of the LED headlamps.
The dominance of the SUV is greatly enhanced by the long hood and the powerful curves. On 18-inch wheels, it stands with wheelskins on lower trims and alloys on higher trims. The SUV offers a wheelbase of 2,762 mm, the ground clearance is 205 mm, and the battery area has a height of 222 mm.
To list a few of the available colors, they included Desert Myst, Everest White, Midnight Black, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet as well as Stealth Black.
Space, seating, and practicality
The XEV 9S as a seven-seater electric SUV, the main emphasis is put on space and flexibility. The Mahindra parenquad gives that the front and the even second row combined have 1 litre less than 4,076 litres of the passenger compartment. The third row has its split 50:50, while the second row has a split and sliding and reclining 60:40.
The car has a spacious design with a 150-litre front trunk while the back space can go up to 527 litres when the third row is folded. The vehicle can be maneuvered in city traffic easily with a 10-meter turning circle.
Cabin tech and comfort features
One of the main features of the car is the triple-screen layout which goes from coast to coast across the dashboard and unites a digital driver display, a central touchscreen and a passenger screen. Two more rear screens and BYOD mounting allow the vehicle to become an entertainment center.
At the very least, the base versions will include three screens each of which is 12.3 inches in size, Qualcomm 8155 chipset, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 5G connectivity and pre-installed content apps. Higher trims, on the other hand, will be equipped with a 16 speaker system by Harman Kardon, Dolby Atmos and Sonic Studio by Mahindra.
Other nice-to-have features are:
– Panoramic sunroof and soundproof laminated glass
– Cooling front seats and when it comes to the higher trims, also cooling second-row seats
– The car has two different climate control systems and clever climate modes such as PawPal, Keep Mode, CampMe.
– Depending on the version, wireless charging pads (singles or doubles), NFC key support and smart features through the Me4U app are present.
– These upper trims have Lounge Desk, BYOD mount, snack tray, and cooled console, etc.
What about Safety and Advanced driving assistance systems – ADAS?
Safety confidence is what XEV 9S is all about. The SUV comes with up to seven airbags placed in the right spots, one of them is the driver-knee airbag that comes with top trims. A bodyshell with high stiffness, disc brakes all over, brake-by-wire, electronic brake booster, TPMS which shows real time readings and electronic parking brake are either standard or widely available.
The ADAS package will come per variant:
– Pack Two Over comes with Level 2 ADAS which consists of one radar and a vision camera, in addition to a 360-degree camera, blind view monitor and front parking sensors.
– Pack Three is endowed with Level 2+ ADAS where the number of radars is five and the car has lane centring, driver-initiated auto lane change, emergency steering assist, and cross-traffic alerts.
Mahindra states that the XEV 9S will not be priced under the SUV500 equivalent and will be Rs 2.5 lakhs more expensive than the 5-door e2o. With monthly running costs being only around Rs 1000 less compared to an electric vehicle average.
Packaging and safety
Ingress and egress in the Mahindra XEV 9S will be through coach doors, that open a full 90 degrees instead of through sliding doors, and side airbags, and an electronic stability system will be standard. Pack Two will offer curtain and knee airbags in addition to other safety features such as a collision and rollover mitigation system.
Vehicle warranty and battery life
Mahindra’s ingenious battery and pack design allowed the company to be confident enough in extending the complete car warranty to 50000 km/3 years which is expected by most customers to be the same period as the Rs 25,000 battery replacement point.
The capacity to produce 8000 electric SUVs each month, including the XEV 9S, is one of the strategies that Mahindra has put in place to achieve the goal of maintaining operating capacity until March 2026. The top management has already given hints of such a move and is thinking of an export policy where few priority markets will be first to have the company’s products for distribution. The business is still in the process of investigating and developing the long-term EV battery recycling solution that will use the experiences drawn from the electric three-wheeler business.
The XEV 9S by Mahindra, with its reasonable pricing, diverse features and practicality of a seat for seven, stands out as a great value-for-money option in the rapidly increasing electric SUV market of India. This car will give the public an electric future that is both modern and everyday at the same time.
