OnePlus Nord 6: A Feature-Packed Smartphone for Performance Seekers

You can put the OnePlus Nord 6 in a steeper price category than before, but for anyone after performance, a good battery and a fine display, it's hard to top. It has a 9,000mAh cell, a 165Hz AMOLED and a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 under the hood. In short, it's as close to a flagship as you're going to get for what you put down.

The Nord 6 is no longer in the same bracket it was when it first came out, but we still see it as the one to go with if you want the works without the flagship tag. Here’s our take on why the new numbers don’t make or break this phone.

Price shift and market context

It’s an open secret that parts are more expensive these days and OnePlus is no exception. The 8GB + 256GB version of the Nord 6, which we saw at Rs 38,999, is now Rs 41,999. If you want the 12GB + 256GB, you’ll be shelling out Rs 46,999 instead of the original Rs 41,999 – you can see the Rs 5,000 difference on Amazon or the OnePlus site.

That puts the base model in some company. You have the POCO X8 Pro Max and the iQOO 15R in the mix. But OnePlus is counting on the fact that for most in the Rs 35,000-45,000 range, having a phone that can keep up and last will be worth it.

Is it a step up from the Nord 5? For the most part. Put together, you have a solid performer, a great screen, software that doesn’t get in the way and a battery to boot.

Battery life that outlasts your weekend

The 9,000mAh is the star of the show. Do your usual round of social media, some streaming, a few calls and you can eke out almost two days from a charge. It’s a relief whether you’re on the move between cities or just in for a long gaming session.

As for recharging, it’s sensible. The 80W SUPERVOOC that comes with it will have you back up and running in about 2½ hours. Not bad for a battery of this size. There’s 27W reverse wired charging too, handy for a quick fix for a pal’s phone or to put some juice in your earbuds.

Display and audio elevate bingeing

Then there is the display. This is where the Nord 6 has a certain quality to it. The 1.5K panel can hit 165Hz and 3,600 nits, so you get rich colours and a smooth scroll. Even in full sun, it’s no trouble to read.

We found the HDR on YouTube and Netflix to be well done, with no muddying of the highlights. And with Aqua Touch 2.0, you don’t have to be as careful with a damp hand. For those who like to read in bed, the 3840Hz PWM dimming is a nice touch on the eyes.

To round it off, the stereo speakers do their job. They have enough volume to make a film or a game come alive without being in your face. Put the Nord 6 in your pocket and you have a no-nonsense partner for a long day of transit or a weekend on the go, not least thanks to the high-refresh screen.

Performance and gaming: flagship feel for less

What’s inside is where it makes its case. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is put to work with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, so when you’re putting it through its paces with some serious multitasking or app-hopping, it doesn’t miss a beat. Then there’s OxygenOS 16, which is as uncluttered and quick as you’d expect from a OnePlus.

If you are into gaming, there’s room to play. You can hit 165FPS in the right titles and a Touch Reflex chip is on hand to make sure your inputs are registered without delay. And while the phone will get a bit of a warm-up after a while of hard use, it never becomes an issue; it cools down in a hurry.

There is one thing to be aware of, and it’s in the way it feels. At 217g, you’ll notice the weight if you’re at it for hours. But that’s the price of the big battery, and for most, the staying power is worth it.

Cameras and design: reliable, not revolutionary

The camera setup is headlined by a 50MP Sony LYTIA-600 with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide and a 32MP for the front. When the light is right, the main lens gives you a fine, detailed photo. I did find the colours can run a little on the warm side, which isn’t to everyone’s taste. In the dark, it does what it has to, but don’t expect miracles; you may see some softness or noise. It’s also missing a telephoto, something you can get from rivals for the same money. For video, 4K 60fps is good enough for your vlogs and social media, with stabilisation that holds up when you’re on the move.

OnePlus has been moving its design language this way. The old pill-shaped hump is gone in favour of a more angular module, and the plastic frame has a metallic sheen to it. The Fresh Mint version I have is a nice, soft matte that doesn’t show prints.

It’s 8.5mm thick, so it doesn’t have that brick feel despite the battery. They put in some military-grade durability and IP66/68/69 water and dust protection, and even throw in a case and a screen protector with the Crystal Guard display.

Buying decision

In the end, the Nord 6 is for those who want something to run all day and put on a good show, rather than one with a lot of zoom. Even with the new price tag, it is a solid performer. If you are juggling work and some downtime, it’s a package you can’t really fault. But if you are a camera stickler for a telephoto, you might be better off looking elsewhere.

If you prefer a quick snapshot of the decision, consider this checklist:
– Buy it for battery life and performance
– Choose it for a superb display and loud audio
– Skip it if telephoto photography matters most

The fact is, the Nord 6 is still a well-rounded mid-ranger. With prices on the rise in this market, OnePlus has made sure to keep the things that matter in your day-to-day. That’s what makes it worth a look.
