Xiaomi is releasing its newest top phones, the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, in India on March 11, not long after they were shown off at MWC 2026 in Barcelona. With Leica cameras, the power of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and better battery upgrades, the phones are made to appeal to people wanting high-quality Android phones.
Launch details and availability
Xiaomi has said the India launch is March 11, and they’ll be for sale at Amazon and Xiaomi’s own online shop. Websites are already up, giving a first look at the hardware and software things the phones do before the event.
Indian prices will be told at the launch. As a guide, the Xiaomi 17 starts at EUR 999 around the world, and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra costs EUR 1,499. How well Xiaomi prices the phones in India will affect how people like both models.
The colours available are different depending on the model. In India, the Xiaomi 17 will come in black, blue, and green. A pink version is only for markets outside India. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra will only be in black in India.
Design and displays
The Xiaomi 17 is a smaller, but still very good, phone and doesn’t hold back on how it looks. It uses a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a very good 3,500-nit peak brightness. At 191 grams, it’s easy to use in one hand.
For those who like a bigger screen, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate that changes as needed. The LTPO tech helps balance smoothness and not using too much power by changing the refresh rate to fit.
Both phones have an IP68 rating for being safe from dust and water. The Ultra is about 219 grams, which is reasonable given its camera and bigger size.
Performance and software
Inside, the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra both have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. You can expect the best performance for games, doing lots of things at once, and AI jobs. The Xiaomi 17 comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage around the world.
Both phones use UFS 4.1 for fast app loading and moving data. Xiaomi is putting this hardware with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, which should give smooth movement, better linking of devices, and better power use.
If you are looking at top Android phones in 2026, this setup is as good as other top phones. Day-to-day performance won’t be a problem on either phone.
Leica cameras and zoom hardware
The Xiaomi 17 uses a Leica-backed triple-camera system. It has a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto with a Leica 60mm floating lens design. It promises the same colours and a classic Leica look over all the zoom levels.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is better with a Leica-worked triple setup that has a 50MP 1-inch main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto. What stands out is a 3.2x to 4.3x continuous optical zoom, which is about 75mm to 100mm.
Unlike periscope lenses with fixed steps, the Ultra uses a moving mechanical zoom system. This gives you more exact framing and fewer problems with picture quality over the zoom range. Expect better pictures in low light and more natural blurring from the large main sensor.
Battery capacity and charging speeds
Xiaomi has improved battery life and charging speed in different ways on the two phones. The Xiaomi 17 has a 6,330mAh battery and supports 100W wired charging for quick top-ups between meetings or playing games late at night.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra has a 6,000mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi says the Ultra is able to keep about 80 percent of its power after 1,600 charge cycles and should give up to a day and a half of use.
What to expect from the Xiaomi Pad 8 lineup
With the phones, Xiaomi will also bring out the Xiaomi Pad 8 in India on March 11. Around the world, the Pad 8 has an 11.2-inch 3.2K LCD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 144Hz adaptive refresh rate, making it good for making content and quickly going through feeds.
It runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, with LPDDR5X RAM, and has up to 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. HyperOS 3 brings split-screen multitasking, a workstation mode, and PC-style browsing with drag-and-drop support. AI features include AI Writing, AI Translate, and AI Art.
The Pad 8 has a 13MP rear and 8MP front camera, and a 9,200mAh battery with 45W fast charging and reverse charging. The Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, shown off around the world with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, faster LPDDR5T RAM, 50MP rear camera, 32MP front camera, and 67W charging, has not yet been said to be coming to India.
Buying outlook in India
If camera performance is what you want most, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra looks made to be good with its 1-inch sensor and mechanical zoom system. If you want a well-rounded top phone at a lower price, the Xiaomi 17 should give performance, display quality, and Leica imaging without the Ultra price.
With the Xiaomi Pad 8, Xiaomi is going back into the better Android tablet market in India. Price will be key, especially against other phones in the same price range. India prices for all the new phones will be shown on March 11, and that will at the end decide how good the phones look this season.
