Apple is on the verge of closing a groundbreaking deal with the parent company of Google, Alphabet. As reported recently by Bloomberg, Apple is set to pay Google $1 billion a year for the Gemini AI model that contains 1.2 trillion parameters. This will serve as the linchpin in the transformation overhaul of Siri, Apple’s voice assistant.
Incorporating Google’s AI Technology within Siri
The Apple-Google partnership would have Google’s AI technology embedded into the backend of Siri. It should thereby be enhanced for the Siri experience, with respect to getting context, putting two and two together, and performing complex tasks. The new Siri, internally called Linwood, should start showing up with iOS 26.4 in the spring.
Apple’s decision to rely on Google’s Gemini AI model marks an acute shift towards external AI capacities. In parallel to this, Apple continues to build cloud-based AI models of its own, which are expected for a late 2026 release. Hence, the partnership with Google is just a stop-gap measure in assisting Siri’s functionality.
While Gemini will mainly upgrade Siri’s summarizer and planner capabilities, the other sets of services that it provides remain able to leverage Apple AI engines. The model will sit and run on Apple Private Cloud Compute servers, so that user data remains sealed and isolated away from Google’s infrastructure.
Behind-the-Scenes Collaboration
Unlike the Safari search partnership with Google, the AI deal is meant to remain a secret. Apple considers Google a technology supplier in this instance, rather than a co-branded partner. There is also a separate conversation about embedding Gemini directly into Siri as a chatbot.
The revamping of Siri is led by Mike Rockwell and Craig Federighi at Apple. Internally, known as Glenwood, the program represents in all likelihood one of the most extensive revamps in the history of Siri itself; Apple hopes to make Siri an intelligent and context-aware entity that can work on higher-level queries and tasks rather than just a basic voice assistant.
Apple Intelligence Platform
The integration of Gemini within Siri forms part of the wider perspective of Apple on its Apple Intelligence platform. This platform intends to propel AI integration into more areas of the Apple ecosystem and showcase greater functionalities in the forthcoming hardware launches. These launches will put the spotlight on the extraordinary abilities of Siri showcased through novel products such as the smart display with speakers.
In conclusion, Apple’s collaboration with Google is evidence of the growing complexity and costs of designing and building cutting-edge AI models; collaborating partnerships like these are seen by giants like Apple to be the way forward in advancing AI technologies rather than lone-wolf entities. With the upcoming intelligent assistants’ new age, Apple and Google Collaboration could see a possible redefinition of the AI landscape in the tech industry.
