Arshdeep Singh Hits 100 IPL Wickets Milestone in MI vs PBKS Clash

During the MI vs PBKS game, Arshdeep Singh achieved something important: he got his 100th wicket in the IPL, and was the first bowler to do this for Punjab Kings. He got two wickets very quickly at the start of the game (in the "powerplay") and this was really important, showing how well he can bowl and how much he controls the ball. He's continuing to get better and is making a difference to his team, and to the IPL in general.

At Wankhede Stadium, Arshdeep became the 31st bowler in the IPL to get 100 wickets, and the first to reach the milestone while playing for Punjab Kings. He did this by getting two quick wickets against Mumbai Indians at the start of the match.

Milestone at Wankhede: Arshdeep Reaches 100 IPL Wickets

This important moment happened in the second over of the 24th match of the 2026 IPL. Ryan Rickelton was his 100th IPL victim, and his teammates and the Punjab Kings fans who had travelled to the game cheered.

Rickelton tried to hit a ball going down the leg side towards deep square leg, but Shashank Singh had a good idea of where the ball would go and caught it securely. Rickelton had only scored 2 runs off 8 balls, and Arshdeep finally reached the goal he’d been working towards since he started playing for the team in and 2019.

This is a great reward for someone who has played all his IPL games for Punjab Kings. He’s gone from being a bowler with potential to a main bowler who is good with a new ball and at the end of an innings. His best ever IPL bowling figures are 5 wickets for 32 runs, and now he has more than 100 wickets in total.

Double Strike That Rocked Mumbai Indians

He didn’t stop at one wicket. Immediately after, Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat and was out for a “golden duck” (zero runs). Arshdeep made the ball move away from the bat at 136.9 kmph, and Suryakumar tried to hit a big shot but just managed to get a slight edge.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was standing at short third, reacted very quickly and took the catch. Mumbai Indians were now 12 for 2 after 2.2 overs, and Naman Dhir had to face the ball that could have given Arshdeep three wickets in a row. Those two wickets showed how well Arshdeep can get the ball to move, how much he controls it and how well he understands what the batter is going to try and do.

Interestingly, this was Arshdeep’s first wicket in the powerplay in his last 11 IPL innings (covering 21.1 overs). This shows he’s improving with the new ball, something that people often overlook because he’s known as a bowler who is good at the end of the innings.

Punjab Kings All-Time Wicket Leaders

Because he got over 100 wickets, Arshdeep is now the bowler who has taken the most wickets for Punjab Kings. He’s gone past Piyush Chawla, who took 84 wickets in 87 matches for the team between 2008 and 2013, which had been the record for PBKS bowlers for a long time.

Sandeep Sharma is third with 73 wickets from his time with Punjab Kings, then Axar Patel with 61 and Mohammed Shami with 58. This shows how the team’s bowling has changed over time, with good contributions from experienced bowlers and newer, developing players.

Arshdeep’s improvement is especially noticeable because he has played all of his IPL matches for Punjab Kings (who used to be called Kings XI Punjab). He’s been loyal to the team, and has improved a little bit each year, which has given him a clear place in the team’s history.

Where Arshdeep Ranks Among IPL One-Team Greats

Looking at the IPL as a whole, Sunil Narine has taken the most wickets for one team (195 for Kolkata Knight Riders). Jasprit Bumrah (183 for Mumbai Indians) and Lasith Malinga (170 for Mumbai Indians) also show how valuable it is to have a bowler who plays for the same team for a long time.

Further down the list are Bhuvneshwar Kumar (for Sunrisers Hyderabad) and Ravindra Jadeja (for Chennai Super Kings), both of whom are important to their team’s bowling. Arshdeep getting to 100 wickets for Punjab Kings puts him in this group of good, loyal players who are known for their bowling during a particular time for their team.

Although those more experienced bowlers have taken more wickets in total, how quickly Arshdeep has done it is important. He only started playing in t20 in 2019 and has improved quickly. If he stays fit and plays well, he could get to the top of the list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets for one team in the next few years.

Impact on MI vs PBKS and What It Means for India

Getting those two quick wickets completely changed the way the MI vs PBKS game was going, and put a lot of pressure on Mumbai’s middle-order batsmen. At Wankhede, taking early wickets often affects how the home team plays at the start of the innings, and Arshdeep’s burst of bowling made Mumbai have to change how fast they were going to score and what kinds of shots they were going to attempt.

For Punjab Kings, the timing is great. They’ve had a good start to the 2026 IPL because of sharper bowling with the new ball and very controlled bowling at the end of the innings. Arshdeep is a good example of this, getting the opposition out at the end with yorkers and now also being able to move the ball and adjust the length in the powerplay.

His improvement also has implications for the Indian national team. Arshdeep has taken the most wickets in the shortest form of the game for India (127 in 87 matches) and was part of the team that won the T20 World Cup. The control he showed against two very good batters shows he’s a bowler who can handle the pressure.

If you add in his awareness of the field, how much he can slightly change the speed of the ball and his growing ability to lead, he’s a complete T20 bowler. On days like this, the statistics and what you see with your own eyes both agree. At 27 years old, he didn’t just get his 100th wicket; he showed that he’s already thinking about getting his next 100.

A Landmark That Signals More to Come

Reaching a milestone can either be a finish line or a starting point. For Arshdeep Singh, this feels like both. He’s joined the group of bowlers in the IPL who have taken 100 wickets and has given Punjab Kings a clear advantage in a big game at Wankhede.

More than anything, he reminded everyone in the league how valuable left-arm fast bowlers who can get the ball to swing are. One ball swung into the leg side, the next moved away from the edge of the bat, and Mumbai’s opening batsmen were out very quickly. Punjab Kings will use this as a plan and Arshdeep will continue to develop it.
