The word on the street is that fans can’t put the new trailer down. It has the kind of unbridled humour you want from a Punjabi comedy, but also a proper send-off for Jaswinder Bhalla. When 26th June comes around, this one will be in the ring with Akshay’s film.
A little of both: feeling and frenzy
In three minutes and nine seconds, the makers don’t beat around the bush. First thing you see is a picture of Jaswinder Bhalla, then they put some VFX to work and have the late star re-enter the fold. From there it is all mayhem in the way you would expect: quick edits, some case of the wrongs and a lot of talking over one another. It has a good rhythm to it, nothing stale, just the kind of thing this banner is known for.
Putting a face on the tribute
\They let the homage to Bhalla do its work. You are put in mind of his mark on the industry when he is put back on screen. It is as much about the tech as it is the sentiment behind it. Then there is the pull of nostalgia. They even put the Ghodi ladder in there for those who were there from the start. It is the right kind of fan service – a nod to the past, not a cop-out.
Where the gags come from
Gippy and Binnu are at it again with their banter; you can’t put that kind of timing on. Sargun Mehta changes the pace when she comes in, and you have Gurpreet and Karamjit Anmol making sure the room is alive.
It is a full house with the likes of Sweetaj Brar, Jasmine Bajwa, Prince, Shinda and Pukhraj on hand to add to the noise. The jokes here are in the situation, not just for the sake of it, with some good retorts to be had. Some of the things people have been talking about since it came out: – The digital version of Jaswinder is a tear-jerker – That Ghodi ladder moment hit home – Gippy and Binnu are as sharp as ever – All the usual suspects are in place – 26th June is a showdown
The release and the rivalry
Mark 26th June for the theatres. The die-hards have been with this franchise since the beginning, so it is only a matter of how many times they will make the trip to see it. You can’t avoid the other side of the ledger though. Akshay’s Welcome To The Jungle is in the mix, and it will be an interesting tussle for the audience’s time. We like to think they will get their money’s worth no matter which way you look at it.
So what are you in for?
This is the series in its element: loud, with the faces you know and a tip of the hat to where it all started. No need to reinvent anything, they are just turning up the volume.
Want the ruckus? The trailer says you’ll get it. Want to say hi to Jaswinder one more time? You can. 26th June is looking to be a date you won’t want to miss.
