The Honor X80i is a mid-range phone, and it really focuses on that 7,000mAh battery and a bright 120Hz AMOLED screen. It comes with a fairly new MediaTek processor (the Dimensity 6500) and makes some sensible choices in what it includes, all in the interest of a long-lasting battery and doing what you need it to do every day.
Overview
The X80i is the first phone to use MediaTek’s Dimensity 6500 Elite chip, and MediaTek hadn’t officially said anything about the chip at the time it came out! Honor says the processor has eight parts: two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.6GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz.
You can choose to have up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It comes with MagicOS 10 (which is on top of Android 16) and Honor’s AI tools. It’s designed as a phone where battery life is the most important thing, but it does have a few nicer features, like being IP66 rated for keeping out dust and water.
Display and design
The X80i has a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1200 x 2600 pixels (which is 1.5K) and a 120Hz refresh rate. Honor says it can get very bright (up to 6,500 nits), and it uses 3,840Hz PWM dimming which should help with brightness in sunlight and make the screen flicker less for some people.
It’s made with aluminosilicate glass for protection, is very slim at 7.34mm thick, and weighs 185 grams. It’s IP66 rated against dust and water, and is available in Flowing Sand Pink, Lime Green, Moon Shadow White, and Obsidian Black.
Performance and software
Inside, the Dimensity 6500 Elite works with a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. This is a common pairing for efficient 5G phones in the mid-range. The processor and graphics chip are balanced to give you reliable performance for everyday use, not necessarily to play the most demanding games at their highest settings.
The X80i comes with MagicOS 10 which is based on Android 16, and this gives you system-wide features and Honor’s AI features. It can connect to many things: 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and lots of satellite systems for finding your location (BeiDou, GLONASS, Galileo, and more). It has a fingerprint sensor built into the screen to unlock it and prove it’s you.
Battery and charging
The most important thing about it is the 7,00 andmAh lithium-ion polymer battery. Honor says in their own tests, you’ll get up to 22 hours of video playback from it. That makes the X80i one of the phones that will go a long time between needing to be plugged in.
You can charge it with a 45W wired charger, which will fill it up at a reasonable speed for a battery this big and also allows you to charge other devices with the phone (wired reverse charging). Honor isn’t saying it will charge super quickly like the very best flagship phones, but the combination of the large battery and the charging speed means it will last a long time and you can share power with other devices.
Camera and connectivity
On the back, the camera is based around a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 lens, along with another camera (they aren’t saying what it is) and a flash. For selfies and video calls, it has an 8-megapixel camera on the front with an f/2.0 lens.
It has all the usual sensors and connections, including an accelerometer, infrared sensor, compass, sensors for light and how close you are to the phone, OTG support, and a USB-C port. The wireless and location features mean it’s a useful phone to take when you’re traveling.
Pricing and availability
Honor is selling the X80i in China for a competitive price. The 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version costs CNY 1,999 (about Rs. 26,000). More expensive options are 8GB + 256GB for CNY 2,199, 12GB + 256GB for CNY 2,499, and 12GB + 512GB for CNY 2,799.
The phone is currently available in China in four colors. There hasn’t been an announcement saying it will be widely sold in other countries, so if you’re not in China, you’ll need to keep an eye out for news about when it might be available in your area, and which mobile companies will sell it.
