The Bharatiya Janata Party has chosen Nitin Nabin, who is in the Bihar government, as National Working President. This is a large change to the party’s organisation at the very top. Nadda’s time as National President is finished, after he led the party from January 2020. The BJP Parliamentary Board approved the move, and the party officially told people about it.
Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, offered Nabin his congratulations, describing him as a leader who works hard, is sensible, and has a lot of experience in party organisation. He pointed to Nabin’s five terms as an MLA and many terms as a minister, saying he had put energy into public service and getting things done.
A five-term MLA who has steadily gone up
Nitin Nabin stands for Bankipur in Patna, and has won the seat in a row since 2010. He first got into the Bihar Assembly in 2006, and soon had duties in both the party organisation and the legislature. His being given this job shows the party’s belief in his skills as an administrator, and his connection to people at a local level.
Coming from a political family, he has for a long time been a part of the BJP's organisation. He has been in charge of important departments in Bihar, including Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing, and Law. At the moment, he is Bihar’s Public Works Department minister, and clearly puts a lot of work into infrastructure and getting good government.
From youth politics to someone who builds the organisation
Nabin started in student politics with the ABVP and moved up the levels of the BJP’s Yuva Morcha. He was on the Morcha’s National Executive in 2008, and National General Secretary from 2010 to 2013. From 2016 to 2019, he was in charge of the Bihar unit of the Yuva Morcha.
His duties in the party organisation have gone beyond Bihar. In 2019, he was made the BJP's election in-charge for Sikkim, and later became organisation in-charge there. People inside the party also give him credit for jobs in important election work, including jobs in Chhattisgarh.

What the promotion shows for the BJP
Choosing a young, five-term member of the Legislative Assembly as National Working President shows the BJP’s stress on people with experience in organisation, and a record in administration. It suggests a careful mix of experience in government and managing party members at a national level.
The decision also makes the party’s leadership more widespread in eastern India. As a well-known Kayasth leader from Bihar, Nabin brings strength in the organisation of cities, and belief at the level of voting areas – mainly on getting infrastructure done and on civic matters.
Moving on from JP Nadda and what comes next
Nabin takes the job after JP Nadda’s time as National President. The Working President job puts him in a place to work with efforts all over the country, while the party works out its longer-term leadership structure. An official notice has been sent to the National President, state in-charges, state presidents, and organisation general secretaries.
The party also told of wider changes, including the appointment of Pankaj Choudhary as Uttar Pradesh state president. Together, these moves point to a new push in the party organisation, before important election times and the work of government which is still going on.
Record in his voting area and the 2025 vote
In elections, Nabin has made Bankipur a safe seat. He won again in the 2025 Assembly elections, beating Rekha Kumari, the RJD candidate. His local plans have been about roads, city services and getting services done, helping him keep a steady base of city voters in Patna.
His time in the Road Construction department in Bihar has been looked at closely, given the state’s stress on connection and growth areas. People who support him say his hands-on style and skills in administration are the reasons for steady progress.
A careful, results-focused organiser
Inside the party, Nabin is seen as an organiser who is careful and puts getting things done first. People he works with note his ability to bring together the party’s youth wing and the main organisation – a quality which may be useful as he works with state units and groups which are linked to the party.
With congratulations coming in, including from the Prime Minister, hopes are high. The BJP’s choice shows that strong organisation practices will go on, with a face which is rooted in government and getting young people to take part.
As National Working President, Nitin Nabin’s first job is to make national plans fit with what is happening at a state level, while keeping up the speed in getting voters to take notice. His experience in administration and his political network across the Hindi heartland and the Northeast give him a wide base to get things done.
