Simple Energy unveils Ultra electric scooter with 400km range at Rs 2.35 lakh

Simple Energy has started selling the Simple Ultra electric scooter in India; it costs 235,000 Rupees. It can travel 400 kilometers on a single charge (as tested by IDC), has a 6.5 kWh battery, and goes up to 115 kilometers per hour. Simple Energy intends for the Ultra to allow people to use electric vehicles without worrying, and it has lots of advanced features and is available to buy everywhere in the country.

The Simple Ultra was first shown earlier this year as part of Simple Energy’s second generation of vehicles and is alongside updated Simple One and Simple OneS scooters. Simple Energy says the Ultra is their scooter that goes the furthest so far, and is for people who want to go long distances and have a strong performance on the road all in one.

Product overview and positioning

You can now order a Simple Ultra and take it for a ride at Simple Energy stores and on their website. The Ultra is the most expensive scooter Simple Energy makes right now, and the company believes it’s a big step in making ‘worry-free’ electric transport a reality for people in India.

The 6.5 kWh battery is the main part of the Simple Ultra and, Simple Energy says, is what gives it that 400 km range (IDC tested). This larger battery means you can use it for a lot longer each day, and travel further between cities, compared to many other scooters on the market.

Battery, range and performance details

The Ultra’s performance is very good: it can reach 115 kmph, and get from 0 to 40 kmph in 2.77 seconds. Simple Energy points out that it’s the second quickest scooter they have, only a little behind the 5 kWh version of the Simple One, and so the Ultra is very powerful for its type.

The Ultra has a mixture of useful and performance-boosting features. It has four different traction control settings to help the tires grip the road in lots of conditions and weather, and a seven-inch digital screen in the middle that shows you all the information about your ride and lets you control the main functions.

Features and rider technology

These features are designed to give a good balance of safety, ease of use, and performance. The traction control lets you adjust how the scooter handles, and the screen shows you maps, how your ride is going, and what mode you’re in – all of which makes it more useful for people going to work or on longer journeys.

The Simple Ultra costs 234,999 Rupees (ex-showroom) and you can buy it from the Simple Energy website and at Simple Stores. You can try them out at stores, and Simple Energy are already delivering to customers in many cities.

Pricing, purchase and delivery details

This price puts the Ultra at the more expensive end of the electric scooter market in India, which is because of its larger battery and the features it has. People who are thinking of buying one should also factor in any money available from the state government, the cost of registering it, and insurance to work out the final price.

Simple Energy has around 70 places to visit and buy their scooters in the big cities in India, including Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi, Visakhapatnam and other towns. They’re planning to expand into cities like Nagpur, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar in the next few months.

Retail footprint and market context

The Ultra is the fourth new thing Simple Energy has done in 2024, and shows they are trying to become more important in the quickly changing electric two-wheeler market. By including a battery that goes a long way, quick acceleration and extra controls for the rider, Simple Energy are hoping to get customers who want an electric scooter that is practical for everyday journeys and longer trips.

However, a key thing for more people to start using electric scooters is whether the guarantees, places to charge them, and support after you buy them are as good as people expect. If Simple Energy can grow their network of stores and places to get your scooter fixed quickly, the Ultra could make more people in India want to buy a long-range electric scooter.
